Hello Everyone,
In 2021 I got sent to the PEB for Type 1 Diabetes and got 60% VA and DOD. Since then I have been reexamined and the IPEB came back and its trying to lower my rating from 60% to 20%, solely based off the fact that my A1C has improved and "stabilized". I am on an insulin pump and continuous glucose monitor that helps me manage my disease around the clock and has led to me having a lowered A1C at the time of the re examination. My A1C will always fluxuate and it has gone up since the re examination. I have contacted the ODC and am going through the process of the FPEB, which is scheduled 14 Feb. I have gotten my civilian doctor write me a personal letter describing my condition (my doctor is also a Type 1 Diabetic so he has personal experience with the disease), and my attorney said that it was the best letter she has ever seen a provider write for a patient. I also wrote a personal letter, and so did my wife who is a nurse. I have also gathered all of my medical records since I have been out of the Air Force that show the required items to be at least 40% (what we are fighting for) like regulation of activities, multiple daily insulin injections and restricted diet. Is this enough? Our plan is to submit a "written summary contention" hopefully having them accept to only lower to 40% (keeping my tricare) and avoiding the hearing all together. Has anyone gone through this process and been successful?

Do you have legal counsel?

Excellent, I recommend you consult with legal counsel and stick with their advice.

Would you be willing to share your doctor's letter, or at least the critical language he used?
I was just diagnosed with T1D three weeks ago, am an Active Duty Army Officer, and want to stay in.
I'm looking for good examples of what needs to be said to help me continue to serve.
