Post-Separation/Moving question

Aloha from Hawai'i!

I looked through the threads and couldn't find a proper answer to this. I am facing the end of my PEB process and was curious as to what exactly happens after the "medical retirement" happens. I'll be moving to the Ft Meade area (have a job set there), but obviously there will be a transition period of moving, waiting for our car to come, etc.

Do we receive the same benefits for moving (hotel until housing is ready, rental car allowance, food allowance, etc.) that we did during PCSing while active? Or are we responsible for all of that?

I cannot answer all of your questions unfortunately, but I can answer a few. When I seperated from Ft. Hood, all of my household items were shipped and paid for by the DoD. I was also paid mileage and per diem for my trip from Fort Hood to NC.

Just like any PCS it depends on how you do it. But, I'm 90% sure that you will get no other benefits other than moving costs, (per diem, mileage, HHG, one vehicle transfer, etc). Thats the purpose of PTDY. find your house, close, then have your stuff moved in a timely manner to arrive when you do...

Does anyone know how long is the window in which the Army will move you? (immediate only, up to 6 months, etc.)

I believe you have up to 1 year to move on the DoD's dime. After that its on you.

You can get extension for that upto 5 years but you will have to file for extension every year.

DoD will move you and absorb the cost up to six years from the time you are out but as mentioned -- you must renew this entitlement every year with transportation. Make sure you keep orders in a safe place and readily available, same goes with the transportation checklist provided upon getting out.
