TAMP Eligibility

I am on TDRL. I'm going to be medically separated within the next 90 days or so. I've read that my family and I should qualify for TAMP since it is an involuntarily separation . My question is who do I have to contact to find out if I qualify and get the ball rolling? I'm a Marine, so would it be MMR4? The website states that I should be able to see eligibility in DEERS but they haven't start processing my separation yet, so would it possibly show up after my separation is in the system? Thanks for any insight!

Eligibility
Sponsors and eligible family members may be covered by TAMP if the sponsor is:

  • Involuntarily separating from active duty under honorable conditions including:
    • Members who receive a voluntary separation incentive (VSI), or
    • Members who receive voluntary separation pay (VSP) and aren't entitled to retired or retainer pay upon separation.
  • A National Guard or Reserve member separating from a period of more than 30 consecutive days of active duty served for a preplanned mission or in support of a contingency operation.
  • Separating from active duty following involuntary retention (stop-loss) in support of a contingency operation
  • Separating from active duty following a voluntary agreement to stay on active duty for less than one year in support of a contingency operation
  • Receiving a sole survivorship discharge
  • Separating from regular active duty service and agree to become a member of the Selected Reserve of a Reserve Component. The Service member must become a Selected Reservist the day immediately following release from regular active duty service to qualify.
TAMP eligibility is determined by the Services and documented in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting SystemClick to close(DEERS) A database of information on uniformed services members (sponsors), U.S.-sponsored foreign military, DoD and uniformed services civilians, other personnel as directed by the DoD, and their family members. You need to register in DEERS to get TRICARE.. TAMP eligibility can be viewed online via MilConnect. Service members should check with their Service personnel departments for information or assistance with TAMP eligibility.

Thanks Charlie. HQMC had no idea what TAMP was and DEERS told me that since I was TDRL and received retirement benefits, I don't qualify for TAMP now. I only qualified for it if I would have separated from the beginning. I'm confused because I've seen those on TDRL receive this benefit. Not sure if it's misinformation from the powers that be or if I really don't qualify for it.

Hello! I've worked TRICARE for 5 years and can confirm that the TDRL means you are not eligible for TAMP. TDRL gives you retirement benefits, so you will have the option to enroll in TRICARE Prime (assuming you are living within a Prime Service Area). TAMP is strictly for involuntary separations under certain conditions and guard/reserve coming off of active orders after deployment.
If you do live in a Prime Service Area (generally 100 miles from a military base), please be sure you enroll/pay the premiums within 90 days of your official retirement date. Even if you don't want Prime, you musts now enroll even for TRICARE Select (formerly known as Standard). If you don't you will not be able to enroll and have any coverage until the open season (November every year).

Thank you for your reply. Since I'm being separated now, that separation wouldn't qualify me because I was once eligible for retiree benefits even though I'm not longer eligible for those benefits? Thanks for clarifying.
