Good morning,
Just wondering when to expect my first paycheck from the VA. Retired officially on 31August from the Army, received VA rating with effective date 01 Sept. So am I wrong by assuming that I should see on 01Oct or is it 01 Nov?

Month After Law
Ref:
https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/38/5111

"... payment of monetary benefits based on an award or an increased award of compensation, dependency and indemnity compensation, or pension may not be made to an individual for any period before the first day of the calendar month following the month in which the award or increased award became effective as provided under section 5110 of this title or such other provision of law."

If your first day in a retired status was 1 September 2019 (final day of active duty 31 August 2019), then your first accrual of VA compensation would be 1-31 October 2019 payable on/about 1 November 2019.

It sound like you might be a regular retiree. All regular retirements (20 years AD) occur on the first day of a particular month.

Example:
I entered retired status 1 August 1991, My last AD day and date of separation was 31 July 1991.
If I had VA comp approved at the time, then the first accrual would have been for 1-30 September, not 1-31 August.

ArcticWarrior907,

Your post from December 2018: " I did drop my retirement packet and received my approved retirement date for 01 Sept. 2019 with 21 yrs of active service. "

So...your first accrual of VA comp will be as mentioned in my preceding post.

Good luck,
Ron

Thanks Ron, you guys all have always eased my anxiety and worries and I am thankful for it.it has been a long time coming and was not always easy..VA rated me 100% P&T. I am not sure what to make of this, still kinda in denial that I am that bad off.
