VA sent out my proposed ratings. How much longer?

So, I've been sitting in preparation for decision for a couple months now. I called the VA because my completion dates (I know these mean nothing) got pushed back several months. They said that they mailed out my proposed ratings to me last week, and they should be here soon. I also now have a claim in Historical. I am in the IDES process, and have been since June.

My question is how much longer should I expect until I get the PEBLO call, and then everything that follows?

Thank you.

Expect a month to a month and a half. My stuff got sent back to the PEB oct 31.

The VA didn't mail you anything. They mailed the PEBLO your stuff. Idk why they say they mailed it to you because they didn't. And if they did they messed up. Ten days after your claim went to historical call up the VA and tell them you want your proposed ratings faxed or mailed to you. Then they will come to you.

Mine too about two months. There's literally no rhyme or reasoning to what they send and when they contact you.

So, it takes 3-10 business days for the paperwork to arrive at the PEBLO through the mail, and up to 2 months for them to notify you of what is contained in that paperwork? That's insane.

They don't Mail anything. It's all sent to the PEB electronically through the SAFE website, among others.
While I have heard of people getting their VA letters in the Mail its a very rare occurrence. The VA sends your ratings back to the PEB, then the PEB will match your unfitting condition to the rating the VA gave you. They then send your finding to the PEBLO who contacts you and goes over them with you, If you accept, request a formal board, etc.

Yes the process is quite antiquated and frustrating to say the least.

That's the part that I don't get. I was told by both my military, and civilian PEBLOs that my package was in post VA Q&A like a month ago. Then on Nov 10th, Ebens goes historical with a closed claim dated for the same day. I called the VA, got a very helpful guy on the other line who says that they "mailed" my proposed ratings that day, and that they would arrive to my listed address (that he then confirmed).

I hope you get a letter from them! I never did. My other buddy I know going through the same thing hasn't gotten one. Others I've talked to didn't get one. It's really hit or miss with it. It's also not worth stressing over. You'll find out your total VA rating and your unfitting rating from your PEBLO. Does waiting suck? Absolutely. I was going bat shit crazy. Now all I'm waiting on is MMSR-4 to run my EAS and index's.

I try to help out whoever I can on here with advice and questions because we all go through this and can all use assistance.

@Han Shot First

Glad yours is finally working out man!

@DakotaA

Han Shot is completely right about the whole mailing thing. In most cases if the VA gives you a date that they sent it back to the PEB that should correlate with that claims close date in historical claims by a day or two. Just to clear things up about the whole 3-10 day mailing thing. This used to be the case, actually in the (now) outdated IDES timeline there was a 15 day admin period for moving packages through the mail. I believe the marine corps, of course, was the last service to transition to digital services. So now everything that is sent from PEBLO to PEB to VA to PEB to PEBLO is all electronic. Safer and quicker process. The only mailing that would go on is when you would ask the VA to mail your proposed ratings to you through a phone call.

By the sounds of it, your package is moving forward. Like I said, you can get your proposed ratings before the PEBLO gets back to you by contacting the VA 10 days after your claim went to historical. It will be a packet that will say you have been unfit and the VA is proposing your ratings are "..." and you have been rated x or y for what ever conditions. It will tell you what was service connected and what was not if that is the case as well. I just got mine and I know more about my case than my PEBLO knows. It's really back dooring them but I don't care, and neither should you because this doesn't effect anyone but yourself. In the VA packet it even states this packet is for your personal essay for better financial planning upon your EAS because the DoD finds you unfit. It says "if you are qualified for benefits..." and goes on to describe how much you would potentially rate every month and what other benefits from the VA you may qualify for. Obviously nothing is completely set until you are 1 day past your EAS because then you are actually considered a Veteran to the VA. As a result no one rates VA benefits until they are a veteran, qualify, and have a DD214. Little stipulations here and there but it all works out in the end.

So basically you are unfit, you just have to make sure everything lines up on the DoD side to what you want. (IE: retirement, separation pay, continue with informal board, go to formal board etc).

Hope this helps a little!

It helps a lot, man. I've got no doubt that you're correct. The whole system is asinine, redundant, and inaccurate. I'll call them on the 21st, and have them fax my info.

I'm not worried about being unfit. In my particular case, and given what I've already been through, there's no doubt that I'm being shown the door.

I'm just trying to prepare for terminal, PTAD, the move back, settling my wife and kid in...ETC. As best as possible.

I'll update this when I hear something.

Update.

Received my proposed ratings from the VA yesterday. My notification letter is dated for Nov 10th. I assume that means that they sent the notification letter to the PEB on the 10th.

Where does that put me now? Am I just waiting on the phone call from the PEBLO? If you go by the date on the closed claim, it has been 27 days since the ratings were proposed, and sent off.

Did you get what you were hoping for from the VA?

And mine took almost two months from VA back to the PEB until I heard back from the PEBLO.

Keep in mind my timeline is pretty screwed up due to them processing me incorrectly from the start.

My realistic expectation was to get a combined total of 65% and that would be rounded up to 70%. I was close. I got 64% which dropped it down to 60% final.

I wasn't expecting to get any money when this whole ordeal started, so I'm not trying to complain about it. I hurt my knee pretty bad, and can't bear weight through it almost at all. As a result, I have a lot of back and hip pain due to poor posture, and whatnot. My back got rated, but not my hip. Which is odd, because it definitely causes problems, and I told the Dr it did.

So, I'll be following up on my hip, and that'll likely cause a little bump in ratings, but I'm honestly not unhappy about anything except how long this all takes. This is crazy. I've been found unfit, and the VA has given me a rating. It's mind-boggling to me how long it takes to read a couple documents, and then call someone to tell them what's up.

I have another question, if you don't mind. Will I be able to stack my terminal with my PTAD when I get my new EAS? I'd really like to not sell any days if possible, and just take both. 30 days of leave saved up, and then the 20 for PTAD would be nice.

As long as you're happy that's what counts! That's a great rating IMO. Keep in mind that you can appeal later or make any new claims within a year of getting out. You have a year from separation where any new claims are assumed service connected and you don't need to provide additional documentation. They also backdate it. If you wait longer than a year they don't backdate whatever new conditions you claimed, you have to provide new documentation etc etc.

Plus getting a VARR (VA Ratings Reconsideration) can take months while you're still in.

Please ask away! Any questions that come up that's what this place is for.

And yes you can use PTAD in conjuction with Terminal leave. If you are staying in the local area of your duty station upon separating ie if you live there and aren't moving you can take PTAD Mon-Fri X 4. Your Terminal leave will then start on the following Monday. Now keep in mind that SOME IPAC's will have you come in that Monday after your PTAD ends to get your DD-214, orders (discharge, TDRL, PDRL etc). You'll want to ask the outbound section what their Perso's/Shops SOP is on that.

If that's the case then youll take PTAD concurrently with Terminal Leave ie your PTAD starts on the 1st, ends the 20th, Terminal leave starts the 21st.

That's what I did. I wasn't concerned with selling any leave. 20 days PTAD, 50 days Term leave.

Don't forget to add your Max Accrual leave when taking Terminal into consideration. That's the total amount of leave you'll have once your EAS posts.

If you have any other questions ask away.

The VA sent my proposed ratings back on oct 20th.. and I still haven't heard from IDES.

When I called the PEB a week before thanksgiving they said they're working on a 30-40 day turn around. Hopefully you hear from them soon ! Congrats !

Just a little update, and maybe I can get some insight, or some outside input.

I'm now 7 weeks and 5 days post-VA. No call from the PEBLO.

Anybody have any idea on what timelines are like right now?

45 days after the VA. It was done at 42, after all year I was in the process every time I talked to the PEBLO she told me she'd call me right when she got my stuff she understands I want out blah blah blah. I called one day like 45 days after the VA like wtf and she was like oh come in next Monday. Garbage "customer service" "quality assurance" bull they call it. But I signed eventually

My stuff took a while. timeline in the signature. I signed findings on the 15th and I am still waiting on orders.

Talked to the PEB on the phone today. I was told that my findings are with the "Executive Secretary". Does anyone know what that means?

So, I got my findings today. It took 62 days. 10%DOD with severance and benefits. Deemed combat related. 60% VA.

Signed, and sent off for my new EAS. I've got about 50 days of leave when all said and done, and I'm already completely checked out. Just need to schedule my move with DMO, and do the whole IPAC thing.

It is my understanding that with my unfitting condition being combat related, the severance I receive will be tax free? Is that true?
