Just had general medical eval/range of motion test today...

Had my general medical test today and have questions about my range of motion test. I know the VASRD says the following:

Unfavorable ankylosis of the entire cervical spine; or, forward flexion of the thoracolumbar spine 30 degrees or less: 40%

and so on. I won't quote the entire thing. I am being MEB'd for herniated disks/degenerative disk disease in my lumbar spine and degenerative joint disease and scoliosis in my thoracic spine.

My range of motion test showed 20 degrees forward, 10 degrees back. Side to side I didn't see the measurements for. If I'm reading the VASRD correctly, I think I sit at 40%, but I don't know if that is correct. Anyone care to let me know if I'm reading it right?

Second question - my scoliosis (caused by the military) should be rated separately, correct?

This forum has been of great help. Thanks to anyone who can help point me in the right direction.

I just got rated at 40% permanent retirement for degenerative disc disease and L5-S1 herniation with it pressing on my nerves. My ROM was 26 degrees forward flexion. I hope you get the correct rating and wish you the best.

I hate to jump the gun, but if they don't give me the correct rating, I will contest the results - a lot is riding on this - namely, how quickly and comfortably I will be able to get through medical school after I finish undergrad. If you don't mind me asking, were you in the pilot program or the old program? I see you're Air Force, so unless by some weird coincidence you're stationed in Fort Polk, I doubt we're at the same place.

I'm waiting on one more exam - ophthalmology is the one taking forever (who'd have thought - gen med was supposedly the hard one to get). My referring doctor said she usually has NARSUMs out in about 2-3 days, hopefully QTC can get my eyes looked at and I can get on the glide path pretty quick.

Thanks for the reply.

I was part of the old program and once my package was submitted to the IPEB it took exactly 4 weeks to get the results. I was shocked with the results and my PEBLO was shocked with the PDRL. She said that is a very rare finding lately and they usually go with TDRL or severance and you have to fight to get the correct results. I called and spoke with a lawyer and he said that is a great result and the back is usually not rated correctly or fairly. I wish you luck with your case and hopefully they have realized that they should start rating correctly and make this process easier.

I just had surgery for DDD and a herniated disc in my lower L-5 s1 and I'm on con leave for it. What exactly is a Range of motion test it what does it consist of? And how long do you think it would take to be discharged/ MED or MEB Boarded? Thanks for any advice or responses.

Nie your ratings sould be good with that ROM. Loewe red http://www.pebforum.com/site/threads/musculoskeletal-injuries.103/. It has the ROM, you need to know what they are doing so you know they do it right.

What exactly is a Rang Of Motion Test? Does it happen pretty quick? and Does the Orthopedic Doctor perform that test? I am pushing and have been recommended for PEB or MEB/MED Board by the On Post Hospital Orthopedic Doctor, and I have talked to buddies in the Army and they say it doesn't take long to be Medically dischargedf you if you don't fight it and what not. Any Idea on anyone who went through a MEDICAL Discharge with MEB and If they got benefits and stuff??

Bro, there is so much information on here. You just need to read every post, even if it doesn't pertain to you. Read and read. I'm reading all day and still have tons of questions.
