Ok I did one of these before, but I have an updated one.
I was discharged in 12/2007 with 2 conditions, only 1 was rated for 10%. I got severance. I applied for VA compensation in 11/2009, yes I know I was foolish to not apply within my first year. The VASRD was changed in 12/2008 and this impact my possible rating.I got my initial VA rating in 4/2010.
I knew about the PDBR early on but was waiting for my VA stuff to be complete.

1. 7/2011 applied for PDBR.
2.8/2011 called PDBR and requested a hold pending VA appeal.
3.11/2011 filed congressional inquiry for VA appeal that has been pending DRO review.
4.4/2012 received favorable appeal and upgrade from 10% to 20%.
5.8/2012 proceeded with PDBR, new application.
6.10/2012 received accepted decision from the Army that they accepted the PDBR recommendation to grant me medical retirement at 30% retro dated to the day of my discharge.
7.11/2012-3/2013 Received amended DD214, DD215. Enrolled in DEERS, Tricare. Got retiree ID.Completed retiree paperwork with RSO ensured to not elect SBP.
8.3/2013-Recieved first portion of backpay and severance was cleare out also got first monthly payment from DFAS

VA is still jacked up as they are still with holding for severance and the VA owes me several grand for severance recoupment.

Do I agree on calling it severance then recouping it from disability compensation, NO!

Here is my case. http://boards.law.af.mil/AF/PDBR/CY2011/PD2011-00274.docx

Congratulations!! :)

Your case its very similar to mine, so here I am to get your advise...

6. 07/2012 received accepted decision from the Navy that they accepted the PDBR recommendation to grant me medical retirement at 30% retro dated to the day of my discharge.

7. 08/2012-2/2013 Got retiree ID & Enrolled in DEERS, Tricare... and I got it because I made several calls and faxed the papers to Ms. Jones. I haven't received amended DD214, DD215.

8. 3/2013 I haven't received anything yet. I called DFAS and there's nothing on their systems.

Is there any contact number that you recommend or do I just need to wait?

Thank you!

Well the fact your in DEERs, but DFAS doesn't recognize doesn't make sense. Have you meet with a retirement officer and filled out a 2656, I left that out, but yeah. You also have to declare SBP, Survivor benefit Program which requires a notarized signature form your spouse to decline. But Yeah I think for DFAS to proses retirement pay they need a DD 2656. Call the nearest Naval base and find out who the retirement officer is. I think you can submit a 2656 to DFAS on your own, but I would get help from a retirement officer as that is there job and they can ensure DFAS gets the form. My form was submitted in January, I got my first payment in March.

I filled out the DD2656 on my own but had a retirement office take a look at it. I did not receive an updated DD214 because I was originally placed on the retired list in 2002 then removed in 2003. When I was removed, my DD214 did not change to reflect the change in discharge versus retirement. My packet was received at DFAS on 25 March and I have contacted them several times. They have told me they have all they need to re-establish my account. I am just waiting on that. Scotty, how long from the time you submitted your paperwork to DFAS until you got your backpay?

It has almost been a year from my retro-active retirement and DFAS still has not created an account for me. I call now once or twice a week DFAS and Marine Corps Headquarters. Last person I spoke to from DFAS said it might take another year. The Marine headquarters is telling me any day now. I calculated $3750 in back pay they owe me. It is not much but at least I can take the family on a nice vacation. I sent my 2656 in August 2012.

Yeah time to file a senate or congressional inquiry. Contact your representative and fill out their release form. Once the inquiry lands on DFAS's desk you will be surprised how fast you have your money.
