Kansas HB-2036 -- Creating a property tax exemption for retired and disabled veterans

To my knowledge, and I admit it is limited since I am not a Missouri resident, a bill being read twice without an immediate committee referral does not automatically mean it has failed. Referrals can take time. Missouri has a session that extends well into May. Kansas ends in March.

The silence is deafening. The House Tax Committee is seeing zero traction as we wait for legislators to push the bill forward. These same legislators supported identical measures last year — before their elections. Now, there is no movement. We ask you to join us in calling or emailing the...

It wouldn’t be an exemption. To address the constitutionality issue, they’ve structured it as a refundable tax credit at the state level. While it’s not an ideal solution, it’s more than what currently exists. The credit would cover 75 percent, as proposed. Subject to change by any committee or...

Kansas HB-2036 -- Creating a property tax exemption for retired and disabled veterans

There is no reviving the bills in the special session. Essentially the governor will call a special session next month for some type of tax bill. Legislators can only work within the parameters set by the governor. So only tax related items such as income and property, etc . They will be there...

Forgot to mention that this becomes law with or without her signature. Only Veto will kill the bill at this point. So no news is good news.

Missouri has a great exemption for disabled Veterans going on the ballot this November. Gov. Kelly should have until midnight of the 17th to veto. It is our assumption at this point that she will forgo vetoing and signing.

There will be no verification with the county. The state in an effort to keep this constitutional has the Veteran still paying the property taxes as usual. The Veteran will then be able to claim a refundable credit in the amount of 75% paid during tax season. I am assuming much like the...
