Wow! Does that mean it will go through? Is there any income restrictions for getting the exemption for those 100% P&T?![]()
Thank you so much for your hard work throughout this entire process. While not as good as we had hoped, this is a substantial improvement from the big nothing burger we had. I hope Laura Kelly values her job and signs this soon. Thanks for the update! Looks like I will stay in Kansas next year. I was planning to move to Missouri. For the property tax exemption the governor has 3 options, Sign, Not sign (Will become law), or Veto. It's hard to say what Laura Kelly will do, but we will be corresponding with her office.
There are no income restrictions or home value restrictions for the bill.
HB2096 doesn't look related to VA stuff at all. What am I missing? Same with HB2098. When I read the pdf documents on the website, I don't see anything about VA tax relief.![]()
My wife so badly wants to move back to Kansas where all of her family is but we can't afford it there. Texas exempts 100% of the property taxes. This would be life changing for my family if it passes! For the property tax exemption the governor has 3 options, Sign, Not sign (Will become law), or Veto. Also, is there a cap on the amount that can be refunded? I see that its 75% but does it matter if the the total property tax bill is 1k, 10k, or 100k as an example. Since the refund would amount to $750, $7,500 & $75,000. Just wanted to know if there was a limit or range for how expensive a house that you can have that has the exemption. For the property tax exemption the governor has 3 options, Sign, Not sign (Will become law), or Veto. So on the legislative website you would need to read the latest CCR report for each https://www.kslegislature.org/li/b2023_24/measures/documents/ccr_2024_hb2098_s_3952 https://www.kslegislature.org/li/b2023_24/measures/documents/ccr_2024_hb2096_s_4017HB2096 doesn't look related to VA stuff at all. No limits - we were adamant about convening that other states, such as Texas don't impose means testing or home values. The only part we are not thrilled about is it will be a refundable tax credit. Meaning the Veteran will still pay the tax bill and then have it refunded during tax time. Also, is there a cap on the amount that can be refunded? Awesome! Please let us all know when it becomes law. We are in Texas and I did the math. Between the taxes on vehicles and housing our family would be spending $1,500 more a month to live in KS and that wasn't an apples to apples comparison. The home we looked at in KS was $200,000 less than our home in Texas. So right now Texas gives us the best quality of life and in return we spend our money there helping local businesses collect more revenue which does have a positive impact our local economy. No limits - we were adamant about convening that other states, such as Texas don't impose means testing or home values. How will each county assessor verify disability rating? I'm in Florida. You're correct, being 100% PT, no property taxes for me. Chief do you get free disable tags too or just the registration?? I know we do 1 vehicle if Texas doing 2 vehicles might be time for me to start looking at moving to Texas.I am in Texas (I am from the South Bronx lol), and due to my rating, I do not pay property taxes, nor pay annual registration fees for two vehicles. Florida, Nevada, SC and Georgia (plus a slew of others) have similar veteran benefits. In my case, I'm saving $8400 a year.
you can get 2 vehicles exempt in Texas for the same persron if you have qualify for meritorious medal plate. So that plate + disabled veteran plate = 2!I'm in Florida. I will call! So if the Governor Vetoes it is there still time for the house and senate to override that veto?looks like there is positive movement on hb2096 View: https://twitter.com/RealPatProctor/status/1789145080315412919
Missouri has a great exemption for disabled Veterans going on the ballot this November. Gov. Kelly should have until midnight of the 17th to veto. It is our assumption at this point that she will forgo vetoing and signing. From a quick search, the KS Gov should have 10 days to act. It says it was presented 7 May. So, a few more days. I really hope KS can get this passed. I'd love to push this socially to see some reaction / response from Missouri and Arkansas.
Forgot to mention that this becomes law with or without her signature. Only Veto will kill the bill at this point. So no news is good news. From a quick search, the KS Gov should have 10 days to act.
