Ill add that i had to send a second CMS case with all that, the first they told me the same about it having to be combat related. The second time i gave them all that info, you really have to hold their hand.

I sent them the actual regulation, showing them exactly where it is located, along with all my paper work from the VA and my separation. My base submitted it for me, the cms case person at DFAS had to transfer to another person then it was approved a couple months later. Whoever "they" are that...

Also remember, you cant get paid for the same thing twice, so if you are recieving a VA disability for something that you are getting a medical retirement for, they will basically take away that VA disability until the severance or retirement is paid back. There is a caveat to that tho, like...

I know what you are saying, my situation was kinda unique, i was guard and only had 1 legit LOD for being separated, it was a 20% rating for my shoulder, i knew PEB wouldint give me more or less for my rating and since that was the only thing getting separated for it was all pretty much locked...

Ya i allready had 60% with a couple pending eval so i wasnt really worried about getting more rating, never thought id get up to 60% in the first place

I chose LDES over IDES because i was ANG and allready head my VA rating, i wanted out fast and was out in about 2 months after package was sent to NGB.

I dont think you can, the severance was nice to get get a lump sum, but i beleive there are some perks to being retired
