I live in the Dallas area and have been dealing with PTSD for the last 4 years. After my civilian psyciatrist diagnosed me with PTSD I filed with the VA and received a rating of 30%. I did not have confidence in the VA system to be able to meet my mental health needs so I continued to use my civilian psychiatrist. Well things just kept getting worse and a friend of mine went to the Dallas VA for PTSD and said I should go.
I went to the walk in mental health clinic and was seen immediately, DD214 in hand no questions asked. From there I was assigned to a clinic. I spent about an hour with the psychiatrist at my walk in visit and she came up with her own diagnosis of PTSD that followed me to my permanent Mental Health provider at the VA.
If you go to the walk in clinic at the Dallas VA with your DD214 or VA ID card, they will see you that day, if they think you need meds you get them and they will assign you to a clinic.
Hope this helps.
