18 Years 2 Months Unsure of Future

Hello all,

I'm a comm guy in the Air Force and currently at 18 years 2 months of service. I have recently tested ANA positive back in June and my PCM has referred me to a Rheumatologist for next month which I was hoping to avoid but due to a short tour (leaving in four months) its forcing the issue. I know for sure based on the last few months that I definitely have something going on and it will more than likely cancel the assignment as well as lead to a MEB. I have not missed any days at work and had a recent PT test with no issues but was on a No PCS/TDY and No PT from Feb 2023 to June 2023. My fear is I'm so close to retirement that I may end up getting medically separated/retired before I hit 20. Does anyone with a similar situation with any advice besides cancel the appointment (I've tried to postpone) or if you had luck applying for LAS? I know I'm not in the process yet but I would much rather get ahead of the issue. Thank you.

I had some medical issues last year before I hit 18 years and they ended after I was in for 18 years. My MEB just ended a few weeks ago. I’m now at 19 years and 1 month. I’ve accepted the findings and applied for LAS. I’ll let you know when I hear if I’ve been approved or not. Making it to 20 at this point for you is definitely possible.

How is your relationship with your CC? If it is good solicit their help. Getting to 20 will make a huge difference to you financially. Can your CC help eliminate the short tour?

How is your relationship with your PCM? Will your PCM slow row admin things?

Relationship with CC is good for the most part but she has only been here for 4 months so not sure how much faith I can put in that, but I have tried to get the short tour canceled and my leadership keeps telling me the medical route is the best option while stating they will fight for me if a MEB is kicked off. I've only ever spoken to my current PCM once on the phone, but once I get diagnosed I will make sure to emphasize how close I am to retiring and if they can help me out.
