I have a broken bone in my foot and also had plantar fascitis so I was on a profile for over a year. I found out I may soon be MEB'd despite being only 17 months from getting to 20 years. The bone is still broke after 4 months.
I have some other medical conditions that have slowed the healing so I don't think I really want to tough out and I am 46.
Any good advice or information about MEB vs 20 years and benefits. Thanks.
AT 20 YOS you are able to receive DoD and VA benefits. It could mean a substantial amount of money for someone 46 years young. Only you can decided if you want "to tough it out."

You definitely want to make it to 20. As chaplaincharlie said, making to 20 means you get your VA check in addition to your pension. If you don't make it to 20, you basically get whichever is higher. Since you haven't been referred to the MEB yet, it should be easy enough to make it to 20 since the process will, at least, take the better part of a year. There are also a lot of things that you can do to slow the process down to make it to 20.
Fight like hell to delay this MEB from starting. I was MEB boarded and medically retired at 17.5 years. Had I made it to 20 I would collect an additional 1500 for life. It may be hard, but the extra income will be immensely helpful, especially if you can't work again once you're out.
