Just to update and give you Type-1 Diabetics some hope, I just got my 2nd TDRL re-eval back and they rated me 40% and PDRL. It certainly took some work and many lessons learned from some on this site as well as the trials of my first TDRL re-eval last year. This one was the initial TDRL re-eval at the 36 month mark. The take aways I have are to always make sure your Dr writes "must avoid strenuous occupational and recreational activity in order to prevent further hypoglycemic events" but also have him discuss the need to exercise but that it must be done "as tolerated" and in the company of others. These unfortunately are necessities as a type-1 and is how I live my life now. Also have them include the "loss of pancreatic function for production of the hormones insulin and amylin" All these key phrases will help strengthen your PEB case and not give the PEB gaps to exploit. I would use these verbatim as it was the first PEB I have had with no reconsideration. We are working to get the VASRD changed to better delineate between t1 & t2 diabetes but until then these are the items that give you the best shot at 40% and the necessary Tri-Care coverage you will need since we type-1's can not get medical insurance on our own. Best of luck and if anyone needs my help feel free to contact me. [email protected]
