A few questions

so my case was sent to the Army for final approval. The PDBR recommended retirement. I have not received official notification after the Army has had it for 8 months.

I am a "homeless" veteran so all my mail goes to my in-laws. What kind of envelope is she looking for? Does it come from DOD or Department of your branch? Is it a Manila envelope that is thick or just a white regular envelope?

I have emailed the Army multiple times over the last few months and I never get a response. So frustrating.

And has anyone actually received back pay? The PDBR specifically says I am due back pay:
"c. Adjusting pay and allowances accordingly. Pay and allowance adjustment will account for recoupment of severance pay, provide 50% retired pay for the constructive temporary disability retired period effective the date of the individual’s original medical separation and then payment of permanent disability retired pay at 50% effective the day following the TDRL period."

Just curious to see if anyone did receive anything. I was discharged 13 years ago so I have to be due something.

And....how long did it take to get orders and ID cards after you did your paperwork?

I know it is quite a few questions and I am scouring threads for information. Thank you so much!

Congrats on your retirement!

Find a County Veterans Service Officer or Veterans Service Officer in your area to get you hooked up with bot VA and your legislative rep. As a nationally accredited CVSO I can tell you that homeless and over due bills are just cause to have your case and settlement brought to the top of the pile. Go to either www.nacvso.org find an officer (most of use were enlisted) or http://www.va.gov/ogc/apps/accreditation/ . Remember VSO's are free since we are paid by our county or organization. I am accredited by 6 organizations but paid by my county to service the veterans in my area, Patricia JANE Babcock. Good luck & God bless!!

Well I ended up getting all my paperwork. Just waiting on new dd214. I submit my SBP on Monday and my banking info goes to DFAS. I am calling to follow up with DFAS on Monday to see if they have finished auditing my file. They have had it for 5 weeks so I am hopeful. If they haven't I will reach out to my VSO and my Congressman. Thanks!

Wonderful!! Now I wait, I submitted my packet Nov 2015.
You do know you can draw both VA Comp, which is tax free, and retirement pay. If you are more then 50% at VA you receive all of both.

I am 70% at VA but I do not get both as I am not combat connected. That is what I am understanding.

Once all was said and then, did you end up receiving back pay?
I am trying to find peace of mind during the waiting game. I submitted my case Apr 2015. I have asked for updates about every 6-8 months; however, since Jan 2017 no replies. I medically separated in Oct 2004 with 10% from Army and 90% from VA. If I get permanent disability retirement, is there any funds due back to me or is just the medical benefits?

If your retirement pay is greater than your VA disability pay, yes you will receive back pay. However, if your VA disability pay is greater starting from day 1 of your retirement you would only collect back pay if your disability was combat related.

Hope this helps!

404 is correct. A lot of math goes in to figuring if you will receive back pay. And there are also exceptions and such. Backpay is a hot topic here. Most are shocked when they don't receive anything. I am a rare one that actually did receive back pay but that has mostly to do with the VA severely underrated me too for 8 years so my military retirement ended up being more leaving me to receive the difference.

So keep your fingers crossed you will be due backpay (hoping you receive a retirement) but don't make financial decisions expecting to receive it. If you want to know how you can calculate your backpay you can mail me directly. I was able to figure mine up within $1000

Hi
I just received my letter for the PDBR and had some questions.
I was medically discharged back in 2008 and received 20% from the Air Force and then years later 60% from the VA.
When i submit this application do i just send the letter without medical records etc or do i need to attach this as well?
On the actual application in block 4 it says " in support of this application, the following attached documents are submitted as evidence". Do they review all of the records through the VA or am i to submit these all?
Thanks so much

They will collect your service records and VA records. Or you can supply them yourself to reduce the amount of time waiting. If you have private (third party) medical records from around the time of your medical discharge, supply those as well. You want as much evidence as possible.

What evidence do you have that supports your medical discharge being changed to medically retired? You can state facts or opinions as they will still review your records to see if you qualify for medical retirement.
