I've been waiting on my NARSUM for almost 3 months now. I'm Active Duty Air Force. Is this normal? If not, what are my options? I keep reaching out to my PCM who keeps saying they'll get it done, but it's been 3 months.

Generic, non-branch specific advice would be to route it up your chain of command. A tactful 3 tries is what I give until I get my leadership involved to be as tactful as they can afford to be. All of my board issues magically got solved when my OIC got involved in my issues with my PCM.

Reach out to your PEBLO. Recommend reviewing the governing regulation. You don’t want to piss off the provider.

You can always use your wounded warrior program liaison to help grease the wheels as well.

Don't have a PEBLO yet. In Air Force you only get a PEBLO once you get Code 37, and you get Code 37 when your PCM submits the Narsum. PCM's narsum will kick off the whole process, that's why it's more frustrating to be waiting for it so long.

I am AD AF and think you would benefit from a PowerPoint slide I have that explains the whole process. You get a code 37, following your local MTF AMRO board, which reviews your case and makes a recommendation to AFPC. If the above sentence looks foreign, refer back to the AFI I provided previously and do some reading. I can only send the slide deck via Mattermost or gov email since it’s CUI. I was where you are currently back in January 2024.

I should've specified that my base does it differently. AMRO already made the decision to go ahead with the med board 3 months ago, and way it works here is PCM writes the Narsum and then they turn on the Code 37. It's disappointing and unnecessarily prolongs the process. I guess this way PCMs are no longer on a timer after AMRO decision.

Actually, they do have a timer. Unfortunately, that isn’t codified in DAFMAN 48-108. Go talk to the patient advocate at the MTF and if needed, get your 1st Sgt involved. Per the aforementioned publication, you “should” be assigned Code 37 as soon as AMRO deemed that you do not meet retention standards, following your IRILO.

You should review your IMR tomorrow to see if any codes are applied to you, such as 31 or 37. From there, you should know whether you are still waiting for the AMRO board to convene. If you have a code 37, I would engage with the PEBLOs, and if you are unsure who they are, use Google or your first sergeant.

I've been checking the IMR every other day for the past 3 months, no code has been applied. I know that AMRO convened 3 months ago and gave the PCM a go ahead to write and submit the narsum. Like I mentioned my base does it differently, they apply the code after the narsum is ready to be submitted. But maybe tomorrow's the day and code will be applied. I've also been told I'll be contacted by the PEBLO after the code is applied.

Thank you, I'll wait a couple of days for my PCM to get back to me with hopefully an ETA and then proceed accordingly.

So my NARSUM was started in November 2023 and It took all the way till half way through this year for them to finish it… the backlog was crazy..

That is wild. Fingers crossed ny base's backlog isn't as bad. What's especially frustrating is the fact they're not turning the Code 37 on.
