Air Force March IPEB Packages

70% permanent rating just came down, but I'm going to request a one-time reconsideration of ratings which is new on the form. Rationale: They said Menier's disease is not unfitting, even though I have 3-4 episode each month. This warrants a 60% rating. Also, pulmonary problems were all grouped together and rated at 30%. VASRD tables show that required oxygen therapy with restrictive lung disease is an automatic 100%. Tables also show chronic coumadin treatment should be 60%. I'm there, but not quite. I just want them to do their jobs correctly. Vertigo, hearing loss with hearing aid, and tinnitus also not rated. Compartment syndrome also not rated.

Total of all ratings came out to 74%. hmmm...

DES system strikes again. The one time reconsideration only applies to those in the Pilot program--of which I'm not. I'm done.

Sorry to hear that. I count my blessing for the Pilot program. I know it takes forever....but I don't think the DoD would have given me "credit" for some of the conditions had it not been for the VA ratings.

On the flipside...at least you are PDRL so you can get on with life. My rating is TDRL so I am really worried that shenanigans will follow at the TDRL re-exam...especially when they no longer have to follow the VA ratings. (i.e. DoD does their own exams). We shall see.

Good luck....70% isn't bad...I wish you could get Meinires rated, but you probably have come to the conclusion I did...all you can gain is 70-->75% pay. Is it worth the risk? I wouldn't think so....not if you have PDRL.

Try to enjoy your retirement. I guess I look at it as remember you are never going to get reimbursed for what you have lost. I'd give back the med retirement decision(the $$)...go back to the way things were. You can never put a price on your health. But I know that can never happen. So I'm not going to let it eat me up inside....

It's been a while, but thought I better get back with my final results. At the FPEB (Aug 2010) I requested a summary hearing to increase the lumbar rating. Denied. So I accepted the original 30% PDRL. It took a couple weeks for the orders to come through, but I started terminal leave mid October 2010, and was retired 29 Nov 2010. Got my first retired check in January 2011. If my PEBLO had actually been helpful and given me correct information I would have accepted the IPEB findings and not gone through the formal portion. That's just what would have been best for me, ymmv.
Currently waiting for my VA claim to process. If the VA rep in Delaware would have been honest, then I could have had the VA claim filed there and already be drawing my VA $. Instead, I submitted my claim after I got home (MT), so it's going through the same channels as everybody else. I was told to expect a rating sometime in the summer 2011. Of course it'll be retroactive to my 1st day of retirement, but that's not helping me now!
Also, unemployment compensation is reduced dollar for dollar by my "retirement" check. If I was getting "disability" from the VA then I'd be getting full unemployment as well. The job search continues...

I was expecting the retired check in Jan too, but DFAS hasn't done anything with my account yet. The VA said it would be another 8 months minimum before they got to my case, due to the large amount of new "agent orange" claims. So much for BDD.

I had to call DFAS retirement section and poke 'em a little. They said something to the effect of "we have all the information, I don't know why it hasn't been calculated yet. We'll have it done within another 30 days". So, call 'em up and give 'em a little prodding. Can't hurt.

Jumper,

My DOS was 30 Dec, 1 day after the day you have in your sig. I got my RAS a few days ago and I called DFAS yesterday to make sure I would be getting a check 1 Feb. There seems to be no reason yours would not be ready as well. But I agree with lou, a prodding may be in order.

I've been poking and prodding for almost 2 months. The last answer I got back a few days ago was that it hadn't been calculated on a "spreadsheet" yet, and that I couldn't even open an inquiry until 30 days past retirement date (it was 29 days when I called). They have the orders--but sheesh...they're still using spreadsheets? Seems that would be open to human error. One more week and then going Congressman direct.

Have they added your retirement account in mypay yet? It looks almost the same as the one while you were still in, but now it will show two different columns of information. Right side will be your retirement account and have you're RAS and other info in it. I noticed the new account on mine about a week before my RAS was issued. It was blank during that time but I knew they were working on it.

No, they haven't added it yet. When I log in, it says "Your separated pay account" and shows my last active duty payment on 30 Dec. No RAS.

Just an update for me: Got a letter today from the VA. Decision is in, they are giving me 70% total.
Sleep apnea 50%
C-spine 20%
L-spine 10%
Tinnitus 10%

They deferred a decision on my rosacea until they can gather more info (not sure exactly what that means?). Anyway, 70% is what I was expecting. I submitted my claim just after Christmas, so this only took them just over 5 weeks to get everything through! I can't believe it only took that long.

Congrats! I applied for the VA on 1 Jan, so I'm just wondering for my own sake. Where you in a pre-discharge program? That's a lot faster than what I've been told. Glad it was quick for you though!

No pre-discharge program. I applied after getting out and getting the 214. I have no idea how mine got fast tracked like that, but I'm not gonna complain! Hope yours goes through fast too!

Update again: Got another letter today, the decision on my rosacea is 30%. So I now have
Sleep apnea w/CPAP 50%
Rosacea 30%
C-Spine 20%
L-spine 10%
Tinnitus 10%
Combined rating 80%
