Another VA exam... after NARSUM?

I signed my narrative package on June 11th and have been waiting patiently to hear back. Well, I check the mail this morning and I got a letter from my state VA, saying that Baltimore is requesting another physical exam.

My questions are,
• Why am I having to do another exam?
• If Baltimore is requesting, have I been found unfit?
• Shouldn't my PEBLO have contacted me, rather than me finding this bomb in my mailbox?

Also, I'd love to know if this has happened to anyone else on here. I thought when they did my exams back in early May, that they were pretty darn thorough! What could they have missed?!

The only thing i can think of is, yourpackage went to QC or was remanded for more information and they need something else. Was there a specific type of exam noted or just a GP?

Ashley, a friend of mine had the same thing happen to him around 3 weeks ago. Ended up that part of the exam didn't state clearly what ROM and how it directly elated to impacting his daily living and they also said since the first exam exposed a issue that should have been addressed they asked for more info. He did his exams, the DR. Emailed the results and he received his "fit for duty" this past Thursday. It was what he wanted so he is happy? Good luck and ask the DR. Why they are requesting another exam and how will it impact your results. Good luck.

Thank you for your quick response :) I figured this was like starting all over again, but the turn around seems quick in your friend's case.

It was just a general notice saying I need a physical related to my disability. I'm not sure if they were referring to my one DOD condition, or one of the many va claims.

I called this morning and found out I have to go back because scars from multiple surgeries were not documented correctly. This is going to hold up the entire process. I was wondering though, since baltimore is requesting my VA to do this, is it safe to assume that I have been found unfit?

Scars are rarely found to be unfitting, so this shouldn't hold up your PEB. Does it mean you've been found unfit? Not necessarily. This could simply mean they are adjudicating your VA claim. Sorry . . .

It is never safe to assume anything. But yes. and even if not "unfitting" which they can be depending on location ( think interfere with gas mask or other PPE/LBE) they can/will be assigned VA ratings which can add up quick. The section on scars in the VASRD is very confusing however. I figure even with all my scars from multiple surgeries doing all their math following the vasrd my scars will be about 30%

Unfit...most likely yes if you had the MEB for other issues and not just scares. The scare issue can be tricky, reason being just because you have scares doesn't mean you will get a %(fighting it after I get out) I have 12 scares and have 0%. They have to fall into the guidlines, do they cause pain, are they norml color, etc. Good luck and let them know if the scare do cause you any problems.

You were right! I had my appointment with the VA on Monday, and last night my ebenefits status changed to "Pending Decision Approval"

I am active navy and that is what happened to me. I finished my VA exams in June, then a few weeks ago I got a letter from the VA stating that I had two more VA appts. So I went to them and while I was there one of the Docs called the head VA office and asked why she was seeing me again, and the lady informed her that she did not put enough info in the first appt. So good luck and glad to hear the happy news for you. i just found out that my case has been sitting on someone's desk since june with no movement. Take care and God Bless.
