Approaching age 60

Hello all,
It has been along time since I have been on the site. My situation is that I was MEBed a few years ago with a rating of 40%. I was a guard member. I am now receiving 100 % from the VA for Gulf war problems.
I have been told that I will receive both VA and Mil pay when I reach the age 60.
I just need to know if this is true? Also if it is true will I receive a guard pay or active duty pay of 40 % of E-7 as first awarded? Also if this is so, do I need to apply?
Thank you
Chuck

Yes but you will need to apply for your non regular retirement assuming you have a 20 year letter. You should be applying 6 months before you turn age 60. Then instead of being on a chapter 61 pension you will get your longevity portion + all of your VA compensation instead of having the VA compensation offset your current chapter 61 pension.

So for my understanding. I will receive guard pay and the 40% awarded at the MEB really means nothing?

Hello @Fleigerhorse

If you qualify for a non-regular retirement (NG or Reserve) upon reaching age 60, you can apply for non-regular retirement and upon approval, you will receive CRDP. The non-regular retirement is not automatic; one must apply for it.

CRDP will allow you to continue to receive all your VA compensation plus the longevity portion of your retirement. The longevity portion of your retirement is:
active-duty equivalent x 2.5% = longevity multiplier. Average high three base pay x longevity multiplier = longevity portion of retired pay.

Note: I overlooked that the question had been answered.

The 40% retired pay was reduced dollar for dollar in the amount of VA compensation received. Any left over you would keep it. You also might be elibible for CRSC. See
