Assignment to WTU/WTB

Greetings all! I'm so glad that I found a forum to ask questions about my situation. I just recently got diagnosed as being depressed and received a prescription for prozac. The meds aren't working and I'm having a real hard time with just getting through my day. I feel like I'm losing my mind. I want to get through this and if I can't than get out of the Army. Does anyone know if I can be assigned to the local WTU to see if I get better?

I'm currently at Fort Lewis, WA. Thanks in advance for any help!

Just being depressed won't get you put into a WTU unit, as far as I know, when My nco asked if my doc wanted me in the WTU and I answered yes he went over to the WTU to get some info. My WTU unit on my base only will take a soldier iin a MEB process if their appt regime is intefering with their day to day work schedule. Or if the unit needs the soldiers spot to be filles aka the soldier is occupying a spot that needs to be filled by a deployable soldier. I hope this helps.

If Prozac isn't helping let them know. If they tell you to wait till your next appt don't be afraid to walk in and tell them "hey I need to talk to a doc, I can't deal with these med's anymore" sometimes thats what it takes for behavioral medicine to take someone seriously.

Hey Ms. Stover.

Could you tell me what post you are stationed at? I'm actually looking into the WTB at Fort Benning because basically my platoon (I'm a medic) works 36 hours on with 36 hours off almost the entire year round and my unit is getting frustrated with my appointments/me not really being able to carry my weight due to lower Lumbar disk issues as it takes me out of coverages that they need bodies for. I'm currently about 1/3 of the way through my MEB process and was wondering if that was something that you were able to get into a WTB for. If you do get this any information you can provide will be helpful. Thanks again

HI Ms Stover,
My husband and I are in Korea currently and his docs are considering a permanent profile due to deg disc disease, spinal stenosis and multiple building discs/bone spurs in his cervical spine and lumbar. He was told today that if the put him on perm profile he will have to transfer to a WTU stateside b/c they do not do MEBs in Korea. We've never heard this and I was wondering if you knew anything about this? Thanks for any help!

Im at Benning. you DONT want to come here. I was in Walter Reeds WTB for 2 yrs. A former CSM opened up a position for me (was a 1SG for him) at Benning. I got stuck in Benning's WTU for about 3 months. Let me tell you, bottom of the barrel there...you live with and are managed by it. Being a 19 year, Active Duty, senior Infantry leader, I couldn't stand wearing the same uniform as the turds just trying to milk the system and having my care managed by Soldiers that don't have a patch on their right shoulder and activated just to staff a WTU.

Im in a TRADOC unit but as my surgeries continue they just decided to initiate an MEB on me. Could use some advice if anyone has some to offer. I'm a little concerned of an MEB especially with almost 20 yrs Active. [email protected]
