I was found 100% by both VA & DOD, In proposed rating I was also expected to be awarded K-1 and S-1. I was discharged in Jun 2013 since then, I have been received retirement pay by DOD every month and was placed on TDRL.

Today when I called VA to find out the status, they said Award Letter was mailed out on 30Sep2013 and therefore if I have not received the letter, she cannot discuss the contents of the letter or benefits.

My Question is since my very first VA claim was filed back in Aug 2012 by VA coordinator at FT. Riley. Can I expect back Pay from VA going back to summer Aug 2012 ?

2) If so can I expect all the back pay in One big lump sum?

3) Am I going to received two different payments one from VA and one from DOD ?

4) Once I received the award letter, what can I expect next once I receive the award letter.

Thank You.

3) Am I going to received two different payments one from VA and one from DOD ? No, the VA will offset DOD dollar for dollar. If DOD is more than VA, then you would receive anything beyond what the VA pays. If you were injured in combat, or in training related to combat, you can file CRSC and it will restore some of the DOD pay. Look up CRSC on here and research it.

4) Once I received the award letter, what can I expect next once I receive the award letter. Nothing as far as communication. Your VA pay will start soon. You will first be back paid for anything that the VA would have to pay above your DOD pay (if VA pay is more), after that, the monthly pay will start. Get signed up for VA health care.

Thank You.

My husband was told by Fort Riley VA that he would get payment from the day his claim was received. I hate Fort Riley

Welcome to the PEB Forum! :)

Indeed, a military service member's status has to change to a "military veteran" in order to potentially receive any DoVA disability compensation benefits. ;)

As such, the VA at Fort Riley definitely should be aware of that regulatory stipulation! Take care!

Thus, I quite often comment that "possessing well-informed knowledge is truly a powerful equalizer."

Best Wishes!
