celiacs disease

Post two deployments, Iraq and Afghan, I come back and start having digestive problems. It didn't previously effect my deployments, and so long as I stay to a strict gluten free diet, it doesn't effect me now. I can run a PFT. I can do a CFT. As long as I provide my own chow, I can do the rifle range. However I have to be in complete control of my diet, or I'm completely worthless for how long I'm in the head. I am being boarded on this condition. I have others that may contribute to a VA claim, but none that would be a career ender like this. I'm a Marine. We deploy. There aren't gluten free MRE's... I still don't know what I'm walking into. Any insight would be helpful. The VA schedule doesn't seem to have the coding for Celiacs and I don't know what would be an analogous disease state. It's not exactly intestinal malabsorbtion but that's not too far off either. Also wondering if the VA schedule is any way related to the ICD codes.

I have Celiac as well... Diagnosed in June... Med Boarded came back fit but unfit... Fit to do my job but unfit to deploy.... I'm Navy... I got a letter from PERS to my congressman saying I am barred from re-enlistment. Currenty on assignment limited orders while I fight this.

Celiac is gonna start showing up alot more. In San Diego, the Navy started offering GF food in the galleys - this means nothing to the people kicking us out though...

It sucks and I hope they treat you fair...

Lilbit,

Please send me a PM on your fit but unsuitable situation.

I was just diagnosed about two weeks ago has anyone fought off a med board or is it a goner?
