Cervical Stenosis (Pending response from PEB)

Hello,

I've been reading these forums since my MEB started, but this is my first post. Currently I am waiting for a response from the PEB to see what the decision will be about my medical issues. I have some question that someone here may have the answer to.

I have many medical issues to include cervical stenosis (causing half of my left and right hands to be numb and severe arm, neck and back pain) and have received many spinal injections. Also, I have had 3 surgeries on my left shoulder to repair damage from a dislocation...but I still have almost no range of motion and significant pain. Also, migraines sleep apnea, insomnia, and several less significant items.

My question though is....the paperwork that was sent to the PEB had cervical stenosis and sleep apnea (CPAP) on the front page as being the reason for the board. Shouldn't these other medical issues have been listed also since they too prevent me from being able to do my job as an aircraft jet engine mechanic? The medical information was included in the report, just not listed on the front page as the reason for the board.

Well, got my response yesterday. Only got 20% w/ severance. Very disappointed but I will try to make the best of the situation. With close to 14 years in service at least the severance will be a good chunk.

Some people have told me that I will not be able to get disability from the VA until the severance pay is repaid. Is this true?

I am also in the process with 10 TIS, when I attended TAPS in Naval Station Norfolk it was explained to me like this.

My severance will most likely be 60K before taxes.

Now to essentially pay that back, it would be the amount of time it would take, say 5 years for the VA paying disability equivalent (60K) before you could start collecting VA disability.

At year 6 you should be able to start collecting VA disability. Hope this helps, maybe someone can explain it better than me?

Here is my situation. I am currently awaiting results from the PEB for DDD and sleep apnea. The way this was explained to me was that if I recieve a severance from the military for DDD then that amount would be deducted from any VA payments. For example, if I recieve 60,000 severance, I could still recieve a monthly VA payment for sleep apnea and a couple other things that are not considered to be unfit. After the VA recoups the amount of my severance pay I would then recieve a larger monthly VA payment that would then be including their rating for DDD. My PEBLO was not the most helpful individual and has since been fired, so this may not be true.
