College education:

I felt a need to pay something forward. For those of you still classified as active duty and needing some basic college credits look in to CLEP/DANTES/EXCELSIOR tests. These tests are free to active duty and they are worth lower division college credit (Under BA/BS) You can borrow a book from most on post MOS libraries read through it and take the test at most of your local on post Education Centers. I urge you to look into this as it will save you time and money. These tests can make the difference when your GI bill may not cover all you want to accomplish. These tests can get your basics out of the way so your GI Bill money can go to the classes that can and will finish your chosen degree. Some of us just may not place well and have to take more than the minimum required basic classes (I was one of those) these tests got me past all of that and I was able to wring out an AS, BS, and MBA out of TA and these tests. I took 17 and passed 16 of them equaling 54 credits. My MOS credits took care of my electives. So I was able to focus on my major and get it done faster. I am not writing this to get any kind of kudos. I am telling you if I can pass these exams you can. The Military has already trained us to rapidly and temporarily memorize something long enough to pass a test and then to forget the unimportant parts and move on. Below is a list of links to the exam sites.

Thank you for what you do.
