Awesome. I won't be putting in for SSDI - I am banged up, but not to that point yet. Everything hurts, sure, but I'm not to that point.
OR kicks a whole lot of ass, esp. for 100% disabled vets - property tax breaks, waiving in-state tuition for dependants, etc. And they decriminalized pot yesterday? Hell yeah. OR, FTW.
Yeah. Pretty crazy world out there.
I think a lot of Oregonians think police actions can be better spent on other things of more importance than smoking pot in your home.
As I understand the rules (law), you can't walk around on the public streets and smoke pot like you can a cigarette, but you can't walk around in public drinking open alcohol either.
But next month in Oregon (effective I think 04 DEC 2014), a person will be able to "carry" in their possession no more than ONE ounce of pot, and can have no more than EIGHT ounces of pot in their residence. They will also be able to have no more than FOUR pot plants of any size on their property. Being in public/driving, etc., and under the influence did not change, nor did the rules that currently regulate medical marijuana.
Any alcohol that is beyond the normal alcohol content of beer and wine (beer/wine can be purchased in a grocery store or 7/11), is controlled by the OLCC (Oregon Liquor Control Commission).
OLCC is a State agency, and they have several "stores" all over Oregon where you buy your "hard liquor". And they run their "stores" on a State Employee schedule and NOT a 24/7 operation and are closed on holidays, etc. Of course, you can always buy a drink at a full-service bar (also regulated by OLCC laws).
OLCC will be the agency in charge of figuring out how to tax and regulate/license the public sale of pot (marijuana) to those aged 21 and over. No one really knows what this will look like just yet. Will there be retail outlets for the sale of pot - like alcohol bars? Will you be able to smoke pot or eat/drink pot at the retail location like people can do with bars that sell alcohol? And what about the supply chain - that's a big one because of the "carry" or possession rules.
So I suspect there will be tons of regulations on this pot thing - from grower to distributer to retailer to consumer. And I think this will make the cost of pot more expensive than it's current "street" pricing.
It will be interesting to see how this shakes out. Maybe I could get permitted to become an agri-farmer - too funny!
There were other ballot measures that passed - and didn't pass. But they didn't seem to get any national news traction.
Another ho-hum day in Paradise.
