CRSC retro pay

Ok so i began to receive my CRSC from the AF on 22APR2013 they did back pay me till 01JAN2013 but my start date is 31OCT2012. I called DFAS and stated that VA has retro payed me all back to 31OCT2012 and the DFAS customer service rep said i wasnt eligible until the 1JAN2013 date and the VA might cover the retro but thats all they could back pay from. Anyone have any experiance with this or any input would help

I got my pay from DFAS first and then received the VA back pay about a month and a half later. DFAS and the VA work very closely on this. Of course you would never know by calling these guys. I really thought the VA was going to be a fight, but it was not. It takes them about a month and they look for any retro pay you are owed and pay.

So, is your retirement date 31OCT2012? If so, your CRSC should go back to that date...

This was the actual retirement date, or the start of terminal leave?

If it is the actual retirement date, I think you are in the same situation I was. It took almost 4 months to get my final ratings after my retirement. During that time I was paid by DOD. At month 5, my VA compensation kicked in and offset all of my DOD. I applied for CRSC and was approved after two months. Because DOD had been paying me for the first 4 months, DFAS did not back pay me for CRSC for that time period. They only back paid me for the two months the VA had been paying me. That left 4 months of CRSC left unpaid. The VA paid me for that after about a month or so. It all worked out in the end. As I said, DFAS and the VA are tied very closely together on this issue.
 
Yes ranger2992 that's exactly what happened DFAS paid me until 01JAN2013 that's when my VA rating was finalized and then VA took over payments. How did you get the CRSC pay before VA took over since DFAS wont cover it before this date. and 27SEP2012 is my actual retirement date not terminal or anything else.

What happens is DFAS pays what they owe first. After that, they send your file to the VA and they audit it. It takes 4-6 weeks and then the VA will back pay you for the 4 months worth of CRSC you would be due during the 4 months DOD paid you. Basically multiply your CRSC award times 4 and that is what your back pay will be.
 
ok so DFAS paid me my first CRSC end of April so between now and end of june i should see a CRSC retro pay from VA is that about right? do you know what VA labels it as when they pay it on e.bennies

That sounds about right. I don't recall e.bennies saying anything. I just had a big deposit from the US Treasury show up one day.

I just got my letter today that I was approved for crsc. I am trying to understand how I will get my back pay. If I am reading this board right I think I may have figured it out. ( yes I know this is old) I medically retired march 4 2013 . I started getting retirement pay April 01 2013 . I stopped getting it in August because the va took over and the amount was higher . My letter today told me my crsc start date was april 1 2013. How will I get my back pay? Is the DOD part having to back pay me since April then the va back pay since August 1 ? My amounts were 70 percent military retirement pay which was 1633 and my va pay is at 90 and 2003 monthly . Please someone break this down for me .

You should get back pay for both the VA and DFAS. DFAS paid me first for the $946 a month that was back dated to the CRSC approval date. I then got back pay from the VA money they owed in relation to the CRSC. I would try and explain, but I really don't know how to. Anyway, both happened automatically. First DFAS audits the award and pays. Then they send it to the VA and they audit and pay. There is nothing you need to do. Back pay took about three months from start to finish.
 
I was hoping to get some help calculating my CRSC pay. I was medically retired on April 23rd 2013 with 16 years and 8 months time in service. I was retired at the grade of E-5 with a total combat related disability rating of 50% from the Army. I was rated at 100% from the VA. Based on my DoD rating and my TIS can I expect to get much if anything from CRSC?
