Since this forum has been a great way for me to gauge how my process was going to go, below is my current timeline:

MEB referral: May 15, 2023
PEBLO initial meeting: May 24, 2023
Second signature/VA claims: June 14, 2023
First VA appointment: June 26, 2023
Last VA appointment: July 5, 2023
VA exams released to PEBLO: July 14, 2023
NARSUM signed: July 20, 2023
IPEB: Unfit on August 4, 2023

How were you able to get your NARSUM back so fast? any advice? My VA exams were sent to my Peblo about 12 days ago but My Exams DBQ's were uploaded to my tricare last week. My PEBLO is saying it could take about 3 months for my NARSUM to be ready.

I honestly just been on top of it however, the NARSUM comes from your local MEB so maybe they’re backed up at your current station. I will suggest you follow up with your PEBLO weekly and have him/her explain to you the current status. Also, make sure your commander’s statement has been received by your PEBLO.

I'm assuming this is an expedited timeline, correct? This went amazingly fast at the DA level compared to a few of us in the forums.

No expedite. I actually submitted the expedite letter for college yesterday. My PEBLO did informed me that it will take about 2-2.5 months for the PEB portion to be adjudicated. I’m now waiting on ratings which can take a while. Hopefully not. I am hopeful due to how quickly my process has gone thus far.

That's odd. My understanding is the IPEB fitness determination should come simultaneously with the proposed ratings in the form of a DA199. How was the IPEB determination of fitness presented to you?

The adjudication timeline looks accurate based on forum reports right now, but I'm guessing the expedition will bring it to less than that.
 
From what my PEBLO told me, the IPEB is where you will get your initial unfit or fit at the PEB level. That decision takes about 11 days according to the most recent MEB timelines. After you get found unfit at the IPEB, the PEB then forwards your packet for ratings which according to the timeline takes about 19 days. Once they receive the ratings that’s when you will get the 199 and so on…please see attached latest MEB timeline. This is just what my PEBLO has been briefing me. In some cases I’ve seen where the PEBLO won’t say anything until your ratings come back. I actually had to ask him to go look at my packet status and he informed me that it was unfit and sent to VA for ratings.

I believe the delays are at the VA and not at the PEB.

Thanks for your input. We're hearing slightly different things then which can get frustrating. The way I've heard it is that the VA receives the casefile simultaneously with the PEB receiving it. However, the PEB will generally pump the breaks on VA ratings evaluations if their initial review determines fit for duty - which coincides with the NARSUM determination 99% of the time. There's been a report from an attorney here that the VA has completed ratings for their client only to later find out that the PEB's decision is RTD. My PEBLO is either refusing or cannot tell me if the PEB has determined if I'm fit for duty even though the VA closed out my case in mid-July. In the interest in full disclosure though the PEBLO has strongly implied that I am unfit, so it's entirely possible they can see and a fitness determination has been made already.

I'm not sure what the hang-up is, but I'm not alone in waiting weeks after the VA has closed the case on their end for the PEB to finish their proceedings. Hopefully they smooth out whatever issue is gumming up the pipeline soon though. The lack of transparency is probably the worst part of this whole process, to include the VA refusing to release proposed ratings for the SM to plan before receiving the DA199 so that we can plan appropriately.

Yeah, for me my packet was sent up for ratings at the same time it was release to my PEBLO prior to the NARSUM. He told me this is something “new” they’re doing to expedite the process. So the VA has been in possession of all my DBQ’s since July 14 and last I call they said they were waiting for somebody to rate it. I am assuming they won’t rate it until they get the thumbs up from the PEB because otherwise it will be a waste if you’re found fit.

VA Claim closed: September 19, 2023.

Not yet. Waiting on that 199 as well lol. My PEBLO told me on Friday that it was pending signatures. I’m hoping soon though!

My case closed Sept 1, and I was notified Sept 17 DA 199 was awaiting signatures, finalized the 25th I signed the 26th so hopefully soon!
 
So I think I got lucky. Received my 199 today. I’ll post my complete timeline once completed but here’s a rough breakdown:
Sent to PEB: 22AUG
Found Unfit: 25AUG
Va App Closed: 14SEP
Received 199: 4OCT

Were you expedited by chance? I’ve been in PEB phase about 3 weeks now and still don’t know if I’ve been found unfit/fit
