I have has a tooth pulled and its affected my chewing. Does the VA cover 100% disabled dental implants, I am sure they don't.. Thanks

Implants are covered if you are 100% P&T, but they make you jump thru some hoops.
The VA here in Birmingham, Alabama is saying since it’s the back tooth they don’t do implants there. The whole reason that tooth was bad was because I got a bad filling when I was deployed to West Africa. It enrages me thinking that they won’t pay for that, but they will pay for illegal immigrants health care. What should I do next?

Umm no one is paying for illegal immigrants healthcare at the VA. Come on not everything is about partisan politics, even though it seems that way these days.

So, well press the topic with the VA, ask them what’s the rational? You don’t need molars to chew? I would ask for something in writing and an explanation to include the policy. My advice be polite but assertive. If they continue with NO, talk to the patient advocate and ask to speak to the clinical director. If foot dragging continues, file a congressional inquiry. Take it step at a time, you may get somewhere with just asking and gently pressing.
Wish you well.

I’m not sure what you mean by partisan politics. I didn’t say anything about politics, but I did say I have a problem with the government paying for illegal people to be receiving healthcare when I serve my country for 22 years and I can’t get the healthcare I earned. That aside you make some good points I’ll definitely fallow through with this. I am going to an ortho facial guy to get an assessment on the tooth. Unfortunately, I will have to pay for that.

If you’re 100% P&T you are a class IV and per the VA. If not you may qualify for the paid for insurance VADIP.

You may qualify for: Any needed dental care*

In typical VA fashion they don’t explain the asterisks.

22 years of service I assume you should be retired and may qualify for the Tricare retired dental as well.

The VA dental in regards to implants is notoriously tough. Should it be that way, no. It’s clearly a cost and cultural thing. Implants even with good insurance is expensive. It would run me about $3k out of pocket per tooth. It is a service they offer, but like with many things, make you jump thru hoops, probably as a tactic to dissuade some veterans. My advice stay the course. Here’s an article that may discourage you, but military times is rightfully calling out the VA.

When you randomly, off topic bring up “illegal immigrants” that’s absolutely a partisan political talking point, especially from a particular viewpoint, was an often repeated topic during the last election cycle. This isn’t a political forum and in fact there’s rules about delving into politics here.

Wish you well. Keeps us posted with your implants.

Many thanks……at this point I will just do it in Thailand when i go with my wife to visit family……don’t lecture me on politics and don’t worry this is my last post
