Differences in SSDI process.

I recently applied for SSDI via website. I received a phone call to come in and sit down with a representative and answer some questions. After that I received a phone call setting up an appt. with a local doctor for a physical, around the same time I received an envelope containing papers with a bunch of paperwork to fill out and return to KY.

My question is this, is this the normal process because I have read different post where all the individual did was present their Permanent profile and that was all. Either way I plan on bringing all my medical records and permanent profile to the doctors appt.

Also I did tell the rep that I was a wounded warrior.
 
I had to give them some medical records and they never returned them. My records were shredded. Always have a backup copy.
 
Yeah that's what I was told never hand them anything but copies.
 
Not sure what you are referring to? It's still there from what I can see.
 
Mine was a bit different here in California. I submitted via online but just got suspenses in the mail to complete. I then got another QTC exam which was a total of 20 minutes for both so I knew how that was going to turn out. I was rejected first time around. My appeal was rejected after that and now I have a court date in Jan 2014. Everything happened very quickly until I got a lawyer. What the lawyer does is try and drag the case out as long as possible so he or she can get the full 6K from your pay. They are virtually worthless until they get into court thats when you will be glad you have them. Try and get all your suspenses in when they ask same day if possible. Then just hurry up and wait its the same BS as the IDES process but the difference is they don't nickle and dime disabilities, its either your disabled or not, cut and dry. Good luck to you guys and say a prayer for me in Jan that I can finally get a win!

Indeed, I made a copy of my entire military medical record and gave it to the SSA representative during our scheduled review of application appointment.

Upon asking the SSA representative if I could have my entire military medical record returned, she said "yes" albeit it make take a week or two for the assigned SSA caseworker to upload the documents into the SSA database.

Afterwards, the SSA caseworker will forward it back to the address on file via USPS first class mail. To that extent, I received my entire military medical record copy in a couple of weeks via USPS first class mail.

Thus, I quite often comment that "possessing well-informed knowledge is truly a powerful equalizer."

Ok so I woke up this morning with a text via USSA with my first SSDI payment. If you refer to my Timeline you will see it only took approximately 45 days. The only reason that it went so fast in my opinion is thanks to you guys and this website. I came to my appts. with my documents and stayed in contact with my case manager. I hate to sound like I'm complaining because of such a hasty SSDI process, but they didnt pay me back to my original injury. Also not sure how to get my spouse and children added. A little more research and I'm sure I will be fine. Thanks again guys!!!
 
If you don't mind me asking, what was your disability for?

I submitted my paper on work on the 18th of Nov at the SSA office here in Alabama, my wounded warrior program rep went with me. She asked me questions, called my supervisor, and told me my packet would be going to Birmingham, Al to the state DDS. Filled out paper work they sent. Called last week to make sure they had everything and that I prescribed additional medications (PTSD, etc). She said everything look good, that they had everything and the only thing they might request is an additional exam. I told here I have an exam with behavior health on Monday, she confirmed the clinic and my address.

Sound about right?

3 months from retirement.

Yes this is correct, they may have you see their contracted Mental Health professional for an evaluation, shortly there after you'll get a notification.

Exactly like Grizz said, the only difference for mine is I had my physical and mental on the same day. After that I contacted them after a week and they again said they had all they needed. About a week after that is when I received my first check. (not sure if that is the norm from what I have read)

Hey Grizz,
Not sure if you have done so or not but do I just go into the office to add my family to my claim?

Indeed, either call your SSA Field Office to schedule an appointment (this is what I did), or visit the SSA Field Office with your spouse to complete the necessary paperwork.
