Disappointment in the process

I cannot express the amount of disappointment I have in the MEB/PEB process. When the paperwork was started, I thought all parties HAD to follow the "guidelines" Congress has put in place. So far, all of my timelines have been busted.....and my case isn't even that complicated. I figured after 11 years of service and numerous deployments, the DoD/VA would honor our time in service by moving paperwork quickly. It is appalling to read all the other posts.....I realize our country's leadership is only offering "lip service" and nobody really cares. I feel bad for all of us who are going thru this terrible system. Anyone feel the same?????

I feel your pain!! My IPEB alone has taken over 120 days... Mine started 1 september 2011. In response to a congressional inquiry the DoD stated while they have mini goals during the process..the one that is ultimately looked at is meeting the 295 goal. I think the whole system is CRAP. No one tells you anything..not even fit/unfit till the very end. No one gives you updates...nothing. You just sit and wait...Ive been sitting and waiting since 1 september 2011 and am damn sick of it. The entire system is BS.

Michigan,
Sounds like we are in the EXACT same boat. It's just terribly disappointing! I suppose I expected more.....unfortunately, my support for the DoD is at an all time low. Hard to be "fans" of the Army after this.....feel like a discarded piece of equipment that is left in the rain to rust.
Best of luck to you,
p

Feel the same way man. It wouldnt be so bad if there were more transparency with the process. Instead of waiting to hear anything from the PEBLO until the very end. There should be a tracking system that lets you know what stage you are at, if youve been found fit/unfit, etc.

My official Pre-NRSUM documents went forward in APR 2010. If all goes well and the ARMY doesn'r revoke my PDRL, I am set to get out of this mess next week.

2 YEARS!!!!

(keeping fingers crossed....).

why would they revoke your pdrl

Everything is in flux at Ft. Lewis PEB at JBLM. Seems like my "re-eval" from the Fusion Cell is problematic.

Will know more next week what is going to happen.

Keeping fingers crossed the Army does honor my PDRL and discharge papers and retirement orders that I was issued last month - papers I rec'd prior to this re-eval I went through while on terminal leave.

Worry more about the correctness of the MEB/PEB rather than how long it takes. A bad MEB/PEB will affect you and yours for a lifetime.

Mike

Also, compared to a new claim for compensation from the VA, an MEB/PEB will seem sooooooooooooooooooooooo short of a wait.

Absolutely correct in my opinion. It is way more important to get a correct MEB/PEB and VA outcome while in the the IDES process. This is why mine took so long.

However, it would be more ideal for all concerned if the military would stop all their nonsense of avoiding the realities of their injured SMs by doing the right thing and following the law to begin with.

For me, this is one of the biggest disappointments I have experienced with this process - the lack of timeliness of getting to a correct outcome and all the institutional shananigans used to avoid/delay/dilute/obfuscate the diagnosis, treatment, and the disability process throughout - from start to finish.

Mike,
While I totally agree with your comment, I don't understand how timelines are being blatantly busted. Congress wrote a memo stating their goals....I assumed ALL gov't entities would do as much as they can to meet the stated goals. This obviously isn't happening....making it impossible for Soldiers and the families to predict when they will leave the military. This causes undue stress on the SM......

I have been through the entire process, received proposed ratings, then approved for COAD. Now, I have PDRL Retirement Orders in hand since Jan, but am stuck in the middle of redoing the whole IDES thing. Claim was received in Jan, C&P exams Feb and March, and now no telling when a NARSUM will materialize. I was briefed that it would go smooth this time around, but now the timeliness is very much in doubt, and I may be forced to extend. I know a lot of folks have it worse than me, but this is a very big disappointment.

good luck nwlivewire!

Well, there is a tracking system in place. Actually there are 2 of them...EBenefits and AKO (Medpros) If they would just use them.

The Army AKO has a tracker but it's manually updated by the PEBLO so if they are not on point you'll never know where you are anyway. I called mine every week, she hates me but it's the only way I kept informed. Get this, the office MOVED and changed ALL their phone numbers and nobody said anything to me about it. I found out when I called the old number and the hospital operator answered. I then drove around post in the area I was told they moved to until I found the building. I think she was trying to ditch me.

And the accurateness of e-benefits is anything but accurate. I just got off the phone with the VA and they once again told me that E-ben's is, in no way, a dependable guage of where your claim is at in the process. I agree with michigan that there needs to be a centralized tracking system used by all services to access and track your completeness. A password/CAC controlled "sharepoint" would be one fine example that could be used for all of the IDES information to flow and be accessed. Anyone else need this soap-box bofore I put it away?? :)

Service Members have to remember that no packet is more important than the other and that there are many many cases in the MEB/PEB. I don't understand that some of people are more worried about time than correctness. What ever happen to "Standard and not to time". It took about 6 months from the time I signed my NARSUM to receiving my 199. In that period, I received a pay check, medical benefits, etc, etc.

I don't want to go all 'old army', but stop crying. This isn't an easy process.

I don't think anyone is crying here.

I think SMs, for the most part, are questioning and asking about BOTH aspects - correct and accurate Standards and Timeliness.

I know I didn't what some half-a$$ed determination. But I also would have liked timeliness in diagnosis, treatment, and IDES processing.

This is not a perfect world. But that doesn't mean we have to let things go when we know systems can be better.

What is ironic to me is how the Army mandated I perform at certain points with a response under the IDES process in 7 days, 10 days, etc., or lose my rights under this process. And yet, what penalties does the Army have when they are errant and lapse in judgement or timeliness for months on end?

Somewhere, a balance needs to be struck here and things will be better for all concerned.

Taxpayers included.....

How about I'd say this as an Air Force member, correctness and timeliness go hand in hand - while true I've been receiving a paycheck - my CC is now trying to make that paycheck about 400 dollars less per month after already making it 550 less the first demotion action. Now with only medical process holding up how much longer i'm in the AF, it sickens me to think they are justified in THEIR PROCESS because I am Failing to meet standards - of which I CANNOT meet due to a medical condition documented and related to the said CC on numerous occasions since January 2011. - My 2 Cents

theres no crying. you need to understand peoples situations. i live with people i barley know due to a nasty dovorce. i have no support structure in new jersey. for people woth ptsd incertainty exacerbates symptoms. i am struggling. really struggling.....so instead of trying to be a badass....realize the emotional toll this takes on people
