Discharge Upgrade

Hi all,

I served 2.5 years in the Navy before being administratively discharged (honorable) for a reason of Condition Not Disability (adjustment disorder). As a result, I got RE-4 and KFV separation codes. I think this is a bit unjust, as I was seeking mental health care and my provider decided to push for me to get ADSEP'd even though I believe my symptoms were not severe enough to warrant such a quick conclusion. In fact, I do not believe I have an adjustment disorder at all. I sought mental health help for depression symptoms, so I'm not even sure why I was categorized under that. My work was fine, and I had no NJPs/hiccups in my records. Even had a good eval report while I was seeking treatment.
How can I get this discharge code upgraded? Does anyone have a similar experience that can help me out? Thank you!

EDIT: I don't plan on rejoining AD, but I would like to have the option of at least the reserves in the future.

I don’t have anything to contribute but it could be helpful to know how long ago you were separated.

Also, did you contest at ADSEP and MEDSEP boards.

Depending upon timeframe, DRB could be your first avenue of redress.

I guess I do have a contribution, after all. I go now…need coffee.

Hello,
I was discharged 2 years ago (2021).
I did not have the option of any ADSEP or MEDSEP boards, so I could not contest anything. I told my provider that I wanted to stay in a little longer but she dismissed it and went straight ahead with the ADSEP recommendation/process to send up to my command.

You need to get a copy of what was submitted to make this separation happen and match it to the relevant AFI to discover what procedure was breached (?) and take it from there. Present your case to the DRB or AFBMC. USAF doesn't have clean hands when it comes to these matters.
