Do Orders DOS include ptdy/terminal

I see a lot of case timelines and random varying DOS upon receiving orders timelines. Is there a standard number of days given between retirement orders and DOS? Is PTDY and Terminal leave automatically calculated into your DOS when given retirement orders?

For example if I have 20 days ptdy and 30 days leave, will my dos just be 50 days from orders? Or will there be that time plus a standard of day 10 days or something?

Im trying to figure out when I’m going to be able to move, as I have a renter ready to move into this house and how long I’ll be paid up to.. and my PEBLO just isn't making it very clear to understand this part.

If you are being medically retired, then you should get 30 days + whatever terminal leave you have. If you aren't being medically retired, then it should be 20 days + your terminal leave.

*This is what I have been told from my post and PEBLO. Is it correct? I think so since most people have told me the same thing.

Generally yes, it also depends how quickly you can outprocess so you may have to sell few days of leave.

Selling leave means you only get your base salary; if your take leave while remaining on orders you also get BAH and BAS. Not sure being force to sell leave is lawful. ***I'm NOT an attorney***

My PEBLO told me that my DOS would be the amount of PTDY I have + my leave days + 15 days to out-process. So you could be looking at 65 days total. However, PTDY is what your commander authorizes. So it could vary slightly.

In my specific case, my PEBLO told me that I would have 15 days to out process as soon as I receive my orders and then I could use my PTDY and my leave up until my DOS.

Permissive is 30 max for oconus or 20 for conus see leaveweb rule #2. Your CC is deciding authority if you get any permissive leave. Once your PEBLOs email you the separation date, you will receive your orders within five business days. Make sure to see finance once you get a separation fate, they have afancy program that can calculate your permissive and terminal start and stop end dates, which allows your double check how AF came up with your DOS. I final out from the Air Force Thursday and just went through this whole process.

They calculate 15 business days for out-processing first, then permissive, and then calculate terminal because you would have earned more by then. You can see an exact breakdown of how much leave you earn by day not the standard 2.5 per month in the leave afi. I have noticed they make your separation date either 16th or 1st so you end after a pay period.

Business days vs most MEB being calendar days. So weekend, family days, holidays extend your time in service.

So can you actually use the days on your LES plus PTDY or is there typically a set amount of leave authorized when you’re on the tail end of a MEB?

Don’t go off LES, because that’s not the source for leave. There is no max essentially. I have a combined 60 days between permissive granted and terminal saved up.

I can only speak to the Army but yeah you are allowed to use all of your PTDY + leave. In the Army my wife had 100+ days saved. When she got her orders she had to turn in a 4187 form to request amending your NLT date on her retirement orders to allow her to use all of it. She needed an O6 to sign off on it but it was very easy.

In the AF, your squadron/unit Commander just submits a memo to extended it.

Thank you both. If that is indeed the truth then that will alleviate my spouses and mine concern while we are OCONUS and it sounds like an MEB will start shortly. Appreciate the feedback
