DOD or VA Pay?

I have a question that I'm somewhat unclear on. I received my DA 199 yesterday and the Peblo compensation worksheet. My ratings are DOD 90% and VA 100%. I've been in 17 years so I know I dont get both. But when in the process do I chose VA pay or DOD pay? Its about a 200 dollar difference in favor to the VA side for me when you factor in dependents and SMC K. I'd like to chose the VA side obviously because it's more money. Id this automatic? Or do I elect? Thanks

You should have elected already. It was on a form the MSC would have had you fill out.

here is the block 13 blurb of the VA form 21-0819. If you want VA pay do NOT check box 13.

IMPORTANT - Unless you check the box in Item 13 below, you are telling us that you are choosing to receive VA compensation instead of military retired pay, if it is determined you are entitled to both benefits. If you are awarded military retired pay prior to compensation, we will reduce your retired pay by the amount of any compensation that you are awarded. VA will notify the Military Retired Pay Center of all benefit changes. If you receive both military retired pay and VA compensation, some of the amount you get may be recouped by VA, or in the case of Voluntary Separation Incentive (VSI), by the Department of Defense.
