Dod percentage calculation

Does anyone know if you are unfit for multiple conditions does the DoD calculate the percentage the same as the VA? Also if I’m an 04 and the DoD is higher than VA(100%), does it make the VA equivalent portion non taxable? I’m getting mixed messages. After reviewing my package the MEBAA added Right and Left shoulders to my referred conditions. My PEB sent my package back to the VA because they didn’t rate one of my shoulders because I had a surgery on it and they said it was a pre existing condition, but they rated my right one.

Was an O3E when I left two months ago. Typically all conditions that warranted the medical board are the only conditions the DoD will take the rating for. Everything else is VA specific. VA gave me 30% for my medical board condition and overall 100% P&T. However, DoD gave me just that 30%.

Since I have less than 20 yrs service, will only receive VA pay.

If i had over 20 years, would have collected O3E pension taxed and my VA seperate.

If that 30% was a COMBAT related disability AND I had over 20 years, then I would collect three checks, O3E pension taxed, 30% disabilty DoD not taxed, VA pay not taxed.

The math gets trickier when you start to offset based on amount. But that is how it works in a nutshell. This all excludes Richard's star act.

That's not how it works on being combat related disability fyi. You don't get 3 checks. You can't get more than the total of your earned pension + VA compensation. When there are multiple earned pension that cap is still there.

Will have to review regs and check with in law. In law indeed receives all three excluding spouse A/A and SSI.

By LAW you cannot get a pension and a disability pension for same time period. It’s one or the other.

SSI or SSDI are completely separate from military compensation. You can get SSDI as well. The standards are much higher because you have to prove you can't do any job period. Most people can work according to social securities definition of work regardless of their VA% or DOD%.

Agree. But if talking from VA/DFAS my answer is correct.

Its possible to receive 3 separate checks. 1 from the VA and 2 from DFAS. Though the total isn't higher than the combo of earned longevity pension + VA compensation. My wife receives 3 separate checks. She gets VA compensation that offsets her chapter 61 pension. She gets a chapter 61 pension check for the amount left over after the VA compensation is deducted. Lastly, she gets a CRSC check. The CRSC check recoups money lost due to the VA offset up to the total amount between earned longevity pension + VA compensation.
