Does surgery affect nerve conditions?

Hello wanted to see if anyone had experience with having carpal tunnel that you have had release surgery. I have had both done and my symptoms are minor in that regard but they do come back with repetitive use or when my other conditions aggravated. It is not my meb referred condition but I wanted to see if it is still likely to be rated by the VA. I've seen a lot of VA proceedings with it rated but haven't seen if they had release surgery prior. Thanks.

The fact you had surgery isn't relevant to the rating, which is why its hard to find a reference to it. Its rated based on the function, so surgery may have improved the nerve, done nothing, or made it worse, but its just the description of the function after the surgery, rather than if a surgery was performed, that is relevant.

When talking about the function its usually most relevant how it performs at its worse. They're measuring functional impairment, so how your hand acts when you're not doing anything doesn't answer that question very well. Its how it functions when you want to use it in a normal way that they need to understand, and likely if you use your hand, you're using it to do repeated tasks, typing, using hand tools, etc.
