I'm wondering what the estimated time frame is from my last date in the AF (28 Sep 16) to when I receive my first retirement check and first VA check? This of course is making the assumption that I get the VA my DD214 within 2 days of being out of the military and that there are no other issues.
I hate to be the pessimist but it was two months for me for VA and 3 months for DOD. My last day was 30 JAN, there were 31 days in JAN and so my VA pay date should have been 1 feb but I've had to file a NOD and will have to wait forever to see how it goes for my one month of backpay due.
I'm wondering the same thing. I have 22 years active duty. I received 60% from the Army and my proposed VA rating is 100%. I am medically retiring on 27 Sept 2016 from Fort Stewart. I don't know which regional office I fall under. I know DFAS will hold the check for September pending an audit. Did anyone retire from Fort Stewart this year? Please let me know the time frames to receive a payment from DFAS & VA.

Since retirement like pay is paid in arrears that makes total sense that your first retirement check is for 1 August. Those paid on 1 July were given their money for 1 - 30 Jun, you were still in the military up until the 28th so you're not going to get the retirement pay.
