First Physical Exam

So today I had my first Physical Exam. It went well, he read my medical history.(I have low back pain radiating to my left leg and dorsalflextion issues) the PA took ROM measurements some reflex tests. He asked my some questions about my career. He told me all I needed to do was wait for someone to call me for some appointments. (EMG, Psych,) He said everything else is documented. Whats next and how long am I looking at moving on with my life?

Skeert - There are many ways that all of this can play out. The location of your duty station, the MEB Clinic in which you attend, your PEBLO, the location in which your paperwork gets sent for the PEB, etc. There is a list of them. For instance, a friend of mine spent two years in limbo, while I received all my information, in about a month and a week, and now just waiting on orders. Your next step is probably your Part II Physical. Just keep reading on here, and you'll find what you're looking for.

Thanks dude,
I am in a duty station that processes MEB and PEB. I am in there every day pushing them. They seem to like my motivation and drive, it may be what got me here. Anyway my PEPLO tells me that I am looking at 90 days if everything works out in the next 2 weeks with my appts. I am going to request that I will be present with the PA that is going to write my NARSUM. I am pushing hard for everyone involved to get it done. I call the clinics that I have appts with and tell them that if they get an opening I can be there in 10 min. every day.
I hope that if your stuck this will motivate you to make these Doc’s, Andmins’s. and “The MEB PEB people”. To do there Job and help you get what you need to close this chapter of your life.
If I am pushing to hard Ill let you know that I am pissing everyone off and it is hindering progress.
This system needs help. I may go to school in law and come back and fix it.

Thanks for your input Dude

skeert,

you deffinately have the right idea. i've been fighting these people for almost 3 years now. it's hard when people just don't care, because it doesn't affect them. i just filed a congressional w/my unit even though my PEB is almost done. i just don't want to see this stuff continue to happen to the next guy/gal. you need to do whatever it takes. this is your life and carreer that is in their hands.

Skeert- glad I could help, if I did. I know waiting for things, especially in robs42 case, can be so difficult at times. Robs, send me an e-mail, because I forget yours from when I sent you an example letter *if you recall*. But I want everyone in this forum, including you Skeert (even though I think we got off on the wrong foot before), I would do anything I could to help anyone. I am even in the process of of talking to some people that could help out in some more ways. Since I do not have much time in the Army and getting out in August, I still want to do my part to help out, whether it is just doing research online for a day at a time to find out info for one person, I will do it. That is just the kind of person I am and always have been. SO, if I can help in anyway let me know. My rating got screwed because doctors didnt document things correctly in med records, now I tell people to keep a daily journal no matter what, even if nothing happens. But definitely keep records of pain, daily ROMs, etc. A journal, and I think Jason can back this, is a legal document (I think if it is a binded book). I may be crazy sometimes, but it is ashame when people get screwed. I will not get into depth, but I did get screwed because things were not properly documented by the multiple PAs I have seen. Well I am rambling I think, the medicine does that.

Skeert,
I know the frustration of wnating to get this done quick but slow down. Go to the SFAC(Soldier Family Assistance Center) or to a VSO representative to get some things going.....here is a list:
1. Start the VA process now. Yes you can. The VA can start your claim at 180 days prior to EXPECTED discharge date. Doing it now makes it easier and faster. You will get your percentage back from the VA on average 6-9 months quicker when started on Active duty.
2. Look at starting Social Security Benefits. This too can be started while on Active Duty and prior to discharge.
3. Talk to a representative from LIFELINES. They should be at the SFAC. If not contact them by looking on the web. They assist MEB/PEB soldiers with getting government jobs BEFORE separation.
4. Tell your command you will need permissive TDY at the end of your process/discharge. You are eligible for 20 days if you are staying in the lower 48 and 30 days if going overseas or Hawaii/Alaska.
5. Utilize the people in this forum. If you have a question or situation I can almost guarantee one of us has done it.

Remember to take it slow, keep copies of EVERYTHING, don't be pushed around by anyone into making a quick decision, and cover your backside. Some commands try to put UCMJ against soldiers going through MEB/PEB. Think about it.....it's cheaper for the military to chapter someone out than to pay them for injuries.

Good luck and keep watching/posting to this forum.
