First post and a question

Hello all! I am Active Duty Air Force diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes/LADA shifting towards Type 1. Found fit and returned to duty in 2008 and 2011. Now due to being placed on insulin, I am being referred to the IPEB. My question is will anyone use the VA paperwork from last time and build on it as in does the VA keep those records or were they destroyed once returned to duty from last MEB?

Also, how does it work if they are claiming asthma on top of diabetes? My understanding from last MEB was that DoD only looked at the issue being referred for i.e. diabetes.I talk to PEBLO and VA MSC next week, just trying to get my head wrapped around the new process to know what questions to ask at one time.

I am already starting the process of Pre-Sep/Taps just to go ahead and be done with them.

Thanks!
J

Not 100% sure, but you should be able to go to the local VA office and ask for all your VA records as a FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) request. Since their records are now digital, it's a matter of them pulling up what they have and printing them out. Should be able to do that on the spot. Then you will know exactly what you have to build on or work around.

C-File is what the call it BTW, if you ask for that they'll supply you with all the records related to benefits. However they will almost certainly have to do a new claim and C&P and most of the records from before won't really matter.

DoD is required to review all your conditions to decide fit or unfit. In most cases that will only be things that fail medical retention, i.e. your diabetes, but there are certainly exceptions.
