Flying the Colors upside down

Need to vent for a moment.

I have come across a few "friends" on FaceBook who are flying the Colors (really, displaying the Flag of the United States upside down) to protest either President Obama, the current government shutdown, or ObamaCare.

I am really heated about this. The Flag and our Colors are not a political device, gimmick, or something to be used to make a political point.

I don't know what kind of response or what at all I am thinking that should be done about this. All I am really saying is that flying the Colors inverted is not okay in my book to express political disagreement. Political disagreement and discussion is very important. Just don't use our most sacred symbols to get your point across. Our Flag flies true and BULLSHIT political disagreements are not license to disrespect the Flag.

Exactly, what are people thinking about in reference to proving a point-of-fact about the U.S. Government (USG) shutdown at this point in time?

The aforementioned unwarranted action sends and especially shows the "wrong" message within CONUS and further adds invalidated truth to "whatever" political agenda(s) against the USG within OCONUS geographical areas in my opinion.

Bottom line, it's not cool, it's not ok, it's not funny, and definitely it's not warranted!

To that extent, protect our USG American Flag; honor it, respect it, guard it!

Hmm, you have me on a temporary venting episode now; good deal!

Thus, I quite often comment that "possessing well-informed knowledge is truly a powerful equalizer."

I totally agree and will go on further to say that both our fallen and wounded warriors shouldn't be used to get a political point across either. The people who are using the fallen and wounded to make political points don't deserve the freedom that they all fought for us to have.
 
It makes me go off the deep end. I want to smoke every last living mother grabber who thinks they want to exercise their right to protest in this way. It is proper to express your political views. It is not okay to use the Colors as a political statement. Maybe if you died in combat. Other than that, don't come across me flying the Colors inverted. Things will get heated at that point. This is no joke.
 
I am disappointed that people are inverting the flag, true us Veterans are in distress right now, but it is by no means a military distress it is a personal distress. People need to protest and speak their minds in a different setting and a different way. I have pondered going to the Million Vet March next week, but it worries me that it will become more than a peaceful protest due to the group that is backing this thing up. At first I wanted to ask people to join it, but being the fact that so many unstable people will be present, now I am no so sure.

I agree Jason that the act is despicable, and down right insulting to our fellow Veterans and currently serving brothers and sisters. We have to keep some faith in the House who have 4 bills dealing directly with the VA budgeting making it a permanent funded program, though it brings us to wonder why the House has not voted on them yet. They have had two of them since early September as stated on C-SPAN Wednesday on the Veteran's Benefits debate.

I don't know if I am overreacting. But, this really makes me worked up. I hate to think what would happen if I came across someone actually flying the COLORS inverted. The thought brings up all kinds of feelings and I tend to think it would not be a good event for the offending party.

I think I am glad that I have not seen this in the "real world." I should not be engaging in direct action. But, man, I am heated about this.
 
I know the feeling, I'm not sure what my reaction would be, but it probably would be EPIC!!!

Indeed ditto! Do you all need backup? I am there with my faulty back and other medical conditions; on second thought, my wife just pulled the trump card...sorry! ;)

Seriously, I am just trying to lighten the venting moment for us all; did it potentially work at least on a temporary basis I hope?

To that extent, please try to have a very peaceful and enjoyable federal holiday weekend, guys!

The politicians allow infringement of our soil on a daily basis and do not enforce the laws of our nation, then they celebrate by allowing a rally of illegal immigrants to be held in a closed park-meanwhile veterans are closed from their memorials.

Home Owners are kicked out of their homes due to it being on"federal owned land"

Business owners are forced to close due to being inside "federal parks"

For the first time in history Americans are mandated to buy a product that is intentionally overpriced in order to give that item to someone else, if they choose not to, they are taxed and that tax is used to provide to someone else.

UN Agenda 21 is being accepted by many townships and communities, denieing the use of land/water/mineral rights to farms and ranches.

for the first time since the civil war, our secretary of defense deferred to the DOJ in regards to paying an allowance all ready approved by the congress and president and was denied in the paying of benefits to the families of our fallen, all in the name of political theatre.

There are currently a slew of card carrying supporters of the MB in our government ranks
There is currently military Aid going to a country in a coup situation, in direct violation of international treaty and our own laws.

There is currently a complete suspension of haibius corpus (miranda/trial by jury in timely fashion etc.) by the NDAA

Three states California, Alaska and hawaii have outlawed the implemtation of NDAA items including detention without trial
at least 1 know states has made the ACA illegal
many states have outlawed any attempt by federal forces to carry out duties within their territory (ACA and 2nd Ammendment related)
Current Administration has prosecuted 2x the number of "treason" cases as all other presidents combined, to inluded the licensed press and "whistleblowers", the illegal wire tapping of the associated press and multiple journalists.
The NSA has "evolved" their surveilance to people 3-4 "steps" away from know terrorists without the need for warrants, when warrants are required they are rubber stamped by a closed court with no oversight
The IRS was used to target political opponents on a national level
We lost 4 brothers in benghazi and to this day, no answers are given.

I could go on, but I digress. I do not support the inverted flag, however I could easily make the leap and connection to see why they may be doing it, and it is only my Job while still serving to make sure they have the right to do it, as i do not support the flag burners, but its their right. If we only pick and choose to fight which rights we support, there will be no one left to help support ours when they come for them.
 
While I don't necessarily agree with doing this type of demonstration, I do understand and feel the same hopelessness that some of these people have with the current state of this country and have no faith that we the people will ever again gain control of our personal freedoms and liberties that I have spent the past 20 years believing I was helping to defend.

So to sum it up, I don't agree with it but I understand.

§ 176. Respect for flag: No disrespect should be shown to the flag of the United States of America; the flag should not be dipped to any person or thing. Regimental colors, State flags, and organization or institutional flags are to be dipped as a mark of honor.(a) The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.
