FT KNOX APPOINTMENT

I have 18 years and 5 months of active duty and had open heart surgery for aortic insufficiency. The docs replaced my aortic valve with a mechanical valve as well as did 1 bypass. I have one more appointment this week at Knox. what are the odds that I will be able to make my 20 for retirement? I was also just seen by my civilian dr for a different illness/injury. He scheduled me to see a specialist but that appointment isnt until October. Will I be re-evaluated at knox for this new illness/injury at knox later? Or will knox continue with my MEB/PEB as is? I am worried that I will be pushed out the door with nothing but a hand shake.

It is hard to guess about the timelines....much will depend on how aggressive your doctors are about initiating an MEB. It is not clear if you have already been already referred to MEB, If you just had your surgery, then it would seem likely you would get a period of time to convalesce.

I would try to go as slow as possible at each stage (it sounds like you have already figured that out though). Hope it all goes well for you. Good luck!

Yes, but.....Sanctuary does not guard against separation/retirement due to disability. It only protects from being dropped for expiration of orders or not being allowed to re-enlist.
