FULL MEB, next IPEB...

Team,

Current AD AF, Recently I recieved the FULL MEB recommendation from HQ AFPC. The next step in the process is to gather all of the pertinent docs with a suspense of SEP 25 for the IPEB.

With that information, I have a few questions.

What is my timeline looking next?

Anyone going through/completed these steps recently and can explain the IPEB during these COVID times?
How long is this IPEB taking these days? I'm overseas, are C&P still continued, are they T-Con?

I am looking for expectation management, as I have not recieved any updates as of lately.

Any responses are much appreciated.

My apologies. Check out the attachment for what your rating could potentially be based on your medical documentation.

Also all of my conditions have been posted on eBenifits.va.gov and now awaiting their evaluations. with that being said this link below has me optimistic that our OCONUS timelines might become streamlined, i hope.

Update*

March 1st. Got my IPEB results; Discharge w/ Sev. Pay @ 10%.
March 8th. Appealed....
March 18th. Hearing
March 22nd. Received a new 50% DoD rating. Signed AF1180 accepting Medical Retirement.
currently awaiting orders from AFPC...

in short, if there is any piece of advice I learned and will continue to pass on to those who read this...
APPEAL APPEAL APPEAL, fight for what you believe in, YOURSELF and YOUR ENTITLEMENTS!
I honestly didn't know what to expect but I knew my records were strong at the time.
The ODC is here to help, don't be afraid of reaching out to them when applicable for Military Counsel/Legal Representation.

Thanks you guys,

Congrats on the "win!" I contacted ODC about an appeal and they stated for my condition (narcolepsy) it would be difficult to change the results. As you stated, always contact the ODC and see what their opinion is. Congrats!

I just realised I am doing a disservice by not fully explaining what my appeal was about. My attorney and I thought to add additional unfitting conditions that I am currently dealing with that leave me unfit to serve as well. thanks for your response

Greetings all!

Sorry for the novel but I’m reaching out today with some concerns and seeking advice. I got into a major accident on duty while serving back in 2018 that resulted in a fully broken humerus and broken ankle, I have had 3 invasive surgeries on my arm since and have not had any progress in bettering the arm, in fact the condition is getting worse, have nerve issues in my arm causing the loss of use of my hand, which now requires two further surgeries to attempt to prevent that. I was initiated for an MEB back in October of 2020. I went to my VA appointments in February 2021 and am still awaiting results from those tests. Have no rating so far. I initiated a request to AFPC to get the nerve surgery done before the further loss of function of my hand is permanent. They denied the surgery and within the notes of the form it seems as if they are deciding to medically separate me with severance pay. They stated, “SM will still have TriCare for six months after separation and possible VA benefits to help get the procedure done.” The results of the IPEB have not come back yet but from that statement it seems as if the DOD is rating me much lower than the deserved rating for how sever my arm condition is. I have had just under 7 years of service with no derogatory paperwork, I was allowed to reenlist in 2020 to accept my FTA BOP then get the my new base just to get initiated for an MEB. Any advice on what steps to take next in case they do decide to separate me instead of offering me retirement? Anything helps! Thank you.

Are you in IDES? If so the DOD doesn't get to do the ratings. The VA rates you and if that condition causes you to be unfit for your job then the DOD accepts the rating. If you are rated higher than 30% DOD you get medical retirement. Rated DOD 20% or lower is separation with severance. Have you gotten your VA rating back? In IDES you have lots of options. If the VA doesn't properly rate a condition you can submit additional evidence through a VARR to have it reconsidered. I HIGHLY suggest the use of a private attorney. They are not cheap but the results will have a lifetime affect on your situation. Getting Tricare for life to me is enough of an incentive to fight to be medically retired verse discharged with severance.

I am in IDES but I have not gotten my VA rating back yet I had my assessments done in Feb. Thats what I’ve been told that the DOD doesn’t make the determination but from their response about the surgical procedure denial, it seems like they’ve made a decision before notifying me. My PEBLO doesn’t think they’re gonna medically retire me but he doesn’t know the extent of my injuries and the ongoing issues. From all the things I claimed through the VA my % should be pretty high but I’m not positive. I’m definitely gonna look into a personal attorney, is there any offices on base that can help with the situation if the try to separate me? I know it’s base specific...

You will have access to legal regarding options to include requesting a Formal PEB. However, they have lots of cases and typically don't have a lot of time that they can dedicate to your case if you don't agree with the results. That is why i recommend an attorney to guide you through the process and help you develop a strong case if possible to try to get a medical retirement.
