Getting seen for TBI years after incident

So around 2014 (over 8 years ago) I was slammed on my head by a much larger sparring partner during combatives. I was unconscious for about a minute and woke up with a few guys standing around me trying to wake me up. The instructor wasn't around, but the others in the class told me what happened and that I should try to stay awake for a while and take it easy. On my way home, I began experiencing immense vertigo and I was doing things such as missing stop signs and dropping things from my hands.

I have struggled with post concussion symptoms ever since, such as focus and speech issues that I've tried to over come. It has gotten a little better over time, but I still struggle with attention, vertigo, and occasionally struggle to formulate sentences.

Did I miss my chance to be seen about this and receive any VA benefits for it? I now realize that old private me should have gone straight to the doc.

My advice is to have your peers write buddy letters detailing the head injury. I’m a navy reservist and I’m going through the Medical Readiness Review. If BUMED finds me unfit for duty, JAG will file a LOD. So my advice is to contact your service medical office and ask for a MRR. I thought by presenting my TBI MRR process, this may help you.

Good luck.
