GOP budget severly cuts SSDI

Have you actually read the proposed legislation or are you strictly going off of the reporting of the LA Times?

Have you? Several on presidential staff have stated their intent to make cuts SSDI. What more do you need to hear?

  • Cuts to federal employee retirement programs and disability benefits: The budget will call for a $72 billion cut over 10 years to the Social Security Disability Insurance. Mulvaney said this would inspire more people to get off disability and back to work. "If the folks who are on Social Security Disability Insurance who are not supposed to be, if they go back to work, they're paying into the system, and they're not taking out of the system," Mulvaney told reporters. "So it does make the programs healthier."

I am a conservative by social and political views / beliefs. I've seen both sides of this spectrum; the one where those who truly need and deserve to be on social security are on it and benefit from it use the program as intended and I love giving my hard earned and sometimes blood earned tax paying dollars for the truly unfortunate. Than I have seen the truly disgusting side of social security fraud. I never really paid much attention to the whole ssdi situation until I seen my wife's friend find a scuzzy ssdi lawyer on a Jerry Springer commercial take her case of schizoids and turn it into a 2800 dollar jackpot. This for someone who claims to be anti social and can't leave the house but posts pictures of herself bartending under the table on facebook and going on vacations to France and Florida. Another family acquaintance we have is collecting money from ssdi for being his wife's care taker and her big ssdi claim to fame is that a wheel chair rolled over her foot and broke it while she was caring for the injured and now she can't walk. Her and her husband pull in over 5000 dollars a month and before they started their little scheme, they were barely pulling in 2200 a month at easy low responsibility non hazardous easy jobs when there were better paying jobs that would have required a little bit of hard work. Oh and they found a scuzzy lawyer on a daytime scuzzy talk show commercial. These same lawyers came under investigation in 2015 for using unethical legal practices to manipulate claims that by legal jargon could not be denied by the social security administration. I have a few more personal examples of people I know that are ripping off the ssdi program. That being said, for my fellow service members who are on ssdi, I am not throwing stones at you. You gave selflessly for a cause greater than self and I thank you for the faithful and honorable service. That being said, I have a fellow infantry brother in arms who was shot through the neck on a roof top in Fallujah in 2004. He nearly bled to death and after being paralyzed from the neck down, he stated to me that he wished he would have died on that roof top when I went to visit him at Walter Reed on my mid tour. He ended up getting social security and wish I could give more in my taxes and gaurantee that the extra go to him and other brave and selfless heroes like him. I also had a soldier who broke down mentally 7 months into a rough tour after he shot a child in the upper torso with a mounted m240 b. He was a rock solid hard infantryman who I leaned on when it hit the fan. He couldn't come to terms with the fact that AQI had paid a 8 year old child money to wave a fake plastic realistic looking pistol at our Patrol in order for us to shoot the child and cause disdain among the local Nationals in sadr city. He ended up with a medical separation and never fully recovered. He was on ssdi and VA comp until the day he shot himself in his childhood bedroom that he was living in after his worthless wife took his kids and furniture and left him for another soldier who she met when he was on his final deployment. I wish I could have given more if only it would be guaranteed to go to him as he was not compensated enough for the severity of his PTSD. But since my taxes go into a big social pool of taxes that fund the leeches in our society that rip off ssdi, I thought no that there should be serious oversight brought upon ssdi and food stamps. I work in a soup kitchen at a shelter on my days off and I see the people that are truly in need and in truly helpless situations and I want to give more for these truly unfortunate people. When it comes to the truly unfortunate, I could care less about my own political views or the political views of others. My heart breaks each time I see children homeless bouncing from shelter to shelter and my conservative views are the last thought on my mind when I pray for them. The sad fact is this; we went into more debt under Obama than all other 43 presidents before him put together. America was not made on the backs of the unwilling. If this ssdi system isn't fixed in the next 5 years, there will be no more ssdi for the truly deserving. Some of you who read this will know people on a personal level who both are on ssdi for a truly deserving reason and some will know those who are ripping off the ssdi system. Before we get political, I have serious disdain for George Bush for bringing us into Iraq and causing the blood of my brothers to be wasted on foriegn soil when it wasn't a just cause. I served in Afghanistan and I couldn't wait to get the blood of Al qaeda and the Taliban on my hands after 911 and I applauded and thanked George Bush for getting me there on the initial invasion. I wondered why we didn't go back when Al qaeda hit the us Cole or the world trade center the first time under Clinton but again, I developed serious disdain for Bush after we invaded Iraq and the only terrorist we found were the ones we attracted to the battle space after the invasion. If you pay taxes than this cut in ssdi should be appreciated because a cut like this usually brings much needed oversight and overhaul and flushes out the leeches that don't need to be on ssdi.

We're all on here. We all know the system is wild. We also know how difficult it can be with very obvious issues to get approved-it takes years even for people on the SSDI fast track. And SSDI is tougher than a VA rating. This isn't going to do anything but hurt the men and women on this board.

If SSDI gets cut why not purge the VA next year?

It reminds me of drug testing: a fraction of a percent were caught with drug testing, and testing cost way more than saved. SS says SSDI fraud is also a fraction of a percent.

But at least the richest tax bracket gets a tax break.

Also SSDI rolls has been shrinking for years. Many people die soon after joining because they become disabled.

When the US government gives the Iranians 150 billion dollars and the North Koreans 4 billion dollars and dumps billions more into failed clean energy ideas and the list goes on and on, the cuts have to come from somewhere. As I posted earlier, I want ssdi to work for the truly deserving. It's estimated that over 40% of all recipients of ssdi are either not disabled and never have been or no longer disabled as when the first go on ssdi. The system needs to be purged. I spent 6 years doing contract security work overseas for DOS. I got to see how easy it was to rip off the us government until the dcma started to do their jobs and began strict oversight off all requisitions. We were on a cost plus plus contract which was stupid of the usg to agree to from the beginning because the more money the contractor spent the more money they made. Ssdi is no different and it needs to be audited and people need to vetted to include the people already on it. Once the purge is complete the ssdi program will have more to give to the truly deserving. I don't mind carrying more than my fair share for my brothers and sisters in arms and the civilian population unfortunate to have disabilities. I want more help for the needy but I also want the able bodied to start giving a fair share so that the truly deserving are cared for. I'm sick of people like my sister in law getting 1100 dollars a month in food stamps for her kids and selling off over half of them for cash. Without regulation there is no control.

Noone wants undeserving benefits to go on. The bottom line is many deserving people on this board and otherwise will be screwed over for who knows how many years until it's rectified. Hopefully we can all survive that.
