Medically seperated in June 2009 for Crohn's disease with a 10% rating from the Air Force after 10 years of service. Got my VA rating in August and submitted to the PDBR that same month. Today, got a letter from the board, dated 27 July 10, that indicates they have retired me at 30%!:) I was PDBR case #550

Congratulations!!!

First off congrats! If you dont mind could you answer a few questions? Was 30% what the VA rated you at? And also, How long did the PDBR have your stuff in Washington? Im 493 and I got a letter saying mine got to Washington 26 Feb. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Once again congrats and enjoy!

Thanks for the congrats. Its nice to share this news with people who really understand what it's like to go through this. I hope all of you receive similarly good news.
Yes, the VA rated my Crohn's at 30%. I also had a few other things for a combined rating from the VA of 50%. PDBR only gave me 30, but I'm fine with that. I submitted my package to PDBR in August. Was told that it was forwarded to Washington on 16 Feb. Then learned later that when they got it, they still needed more documentation. On 11 June, my package was finally complete. The package was in Washington from February 16 until now, so a little over 5 months.
Now I guess it's a month or two until I get my retirement orders and can get my ID card, tricare, etc.

So if I understand correctly, you got a medical rating from the Air Force BEFORE you submitted to the VA for disability? Then you get the rating from VA and submit THAT information to the PDBR to change the original rate from 10% to 30% and it worked? Is that correct?

Edit: Has anyone received a 30% rating for a brain tumor from the PEB?

Yes, that's how it worked for me. I think thigns are different now though, as my understanding is that the PDBR only accepts cases for seperations that occurred before the end of 2009.

ndrkk,

Congrats! I was in the AF as well and I was about two or three cases behind you in the docket count. I was rated 10% for and kicked out with severance in 2003. I called Randolph the other day and they told me the board was recommending that I be retired, but the boards recommendation had to be approved by the Air Force. How long did it take from the time the board made their recommendation for your to receive your packet in the mail? Congrats again!

I was discharged with "Crohnic nausea and vomiting". I had a small bowel follow through stating SM possibly has crohns disease while in the Army. This exam was never followed up on by the Army docs. I was meb without a diagnosis.

I was recently admitted twice to the VA with severe crohns disease. Ulcers and inflammation in alot of places. Prednisone, Pentasa and now possibly bowel resection.

Just applied for Crohns disease benefits through the VA in June.

Can this help my PDBR case?

I'm trying to state to the board that I had crohns disease in the Army.
