Not sure if this is the right thread, but I’ll shoot my shot.

I have just completed my VA exams and I’m waiting for my peblo to receive the exams. Should I start looking for a house? I live on base and I plan to move across the country. Also, I have a school-age kiddo, so I’m trying not to have a big gap between schools. Any advice? I have already been preapproved for a loan.

It's tricky but can be done. I recommend renting for 1 year and then purchasing which most people don't want to hear. With all the changes going on and the uncertainty of your finances since not knowing the outcome of your IDES I think it's best to move slowly. When this happened for us we stayed with family for 9 months and then purchased a house after settling in.

It would def be easier if we were moving during the summer but I really don’t want to keep shuffling my kids to different schools :(

Lenders require a certain time(1 to 2 years) left in service contract in order to get a loan or require a letter from COC stating you are going to reenlist and get station at new location. Also depending on what state, you are moving to may give you a discount on property tax after your rating from VA. That can save you up to $700 a month. If you don't have time required left on your contract......lenders want 2 years of W2 job. Some will waive this if you work in the same industry you did in the navy. Talk to your lender that you got preapprove through about these things before you make your choice. I know many who made plans and this messed them up.
