How Long?

I'm new to this, so please forgive me if someone has asked this questions a lot of times. I am under the IDES and my package was mailed off to DC April 29th. I was told that if you hadn't heard anything in 3 weeks that you can pretty much count that as an unfit finding. However, how long will it actually take from the time they receive my package until my findings and ratings come back? Also, has anyone received ratings back on osteoporosis of the spine and surgical menopause? I'm trying to get home to my husband who is in Japan by August at the latest and I'm just trying to see if that is even possible! Please help...any advice is welcomed.

Dear DaniP:

I wouldn't hold my breath on your getting to Japan by August.

I was told yesterday from my Ft. Lewis PEBLO that the "average" turn-around time for packets arriving to the PEB/rating phase is 90-120 days.

So that time, plus the discharge /paperwork time phase, will be greater than your August Japan date.

I would imagine D.C. is backed up, too, as there are only so many locations that process this type of paperwork.

Maybe someone from D.C. will chime in and let you know what they have recently experienced at your location.

As for your ailments, you can search this website and download the VASRD - schedule of ratings. Go to the downloads section in this website,

Best of luck in your outcome!

Hello,

My package was sent to DC on April 15th, and I just found out the beginning of last week it was already at the VA and that my PEBLO should be receiving the findings within 2 weeks. So I should hear something about my findings maybe this week or next but it was fairly quick for me thus far.

I've read that osteoporosis itself does not cause pain. I don't believe that for a moment because I started having problems/pain standing for long periods back in 2006, I fractured my back in 2009. It would seem that as the one is getting weaker you would start having pain. I'm AF and my package has been sent of for 3 weeks Wednesday. As soon as I find out I will post what I know but I'm guessing osteoporosis alone is not rateable or maybe rated as arthritis.

So I was told that my package has moved on and is at the VA awaiting a rating. Does anyone know on average how long that will take before I hear something back?

Here at Fort Lewis, Washington, my Peblo recently stated that it's taking the Seattle VA 90-120 days to receive/return back packet to the Peblo.

Seattle VA is backed up.

90-120 day turn-around time.

Nwlivewire,

Is this 90-120 day turn around from the time the PEB determines fitness to the time VA determines ratings?

Dear ceilingfan:

As I understood my Peblo supervisor lady, the way she stated this to me (our conversation being a 5-10 minute phone call), is that when AFTER the phase/stage is done where you've had the opportunity to review the findings for accuracy, or appealed, or IMA'ed, or whatever - after all that part is done, and you have signed off the NARSUM, and after all that part or stage of that process is done, THEN they forward the entire packet to the VA for the ratings part.

So, at the moment, it's taking, on average, 90-120 days turn-around time for the VA rating part of this process.

I spoke with the VA Rep at Ft. Lewis, too. He also confirmed this time frame as an "average" - though some are getting through more quickly. He also mentioned as an aside that there are some VA personnel who have been approved for mandatory overtime - the ideal outcome being that the overtime is suppossed to help reduce the backlog and shorten up this 90-120 day turn-around time.

So this timeframe may be in the process of shortening itself down. Three months from now, the average turn-around time could be shorter IF the mandatory overtime works to reduce the backlog on their end.

That's all I know at the moment about what's happening right today at Ft. Lewis PEBLO/Seattle VA.

***********

My PEBLO Lady is a high-speed, experienced, and knowledgeable asset - over 10 years experience. I try not to call her very often as she is busier than a one-armed paper-hanger. But I did have the opportunity to enter the PEBLO work space when I went up to Ft. Lewis this past January. And there was literally row after row after row of organized stacks of boxes of case records in every nook and cranny of floor space. The cubicles of the MEB technicians are cramped, their work areas are extremely confining, and yet, the cases continue to pile in on them on a daily basis. It's really ridiculous that personnel are being located in such a confining space. I mean, anyone with half a brain can obviously see that they need more space and personnel to handle this never-ending load of incoming. I half-jokingly asked my Peblo lady if they have issued everyone bladder bags. She laughed and said that my coming to see her was the first break she had all day - and it was 2 pm when I stopped in to see her! (I live 140 miles one way from Ft. Lewis, she knew I was coming that day, but not what time, as I had other appts prior to seeing her).

But I had the opportunity to meet face-to-face with my PEBLO supervisor for 10-15 minutes. She explained things to me on areas of question I had at that time, gave me straight and honest answers, presented handouts to me to take back home with me, and was courteous throughout our interchange - in spite of these stressfull environmental working conditions (10 pounds of S*** in a five pound sack).

This was my impression of what their place looked like back in January. I don't envy any of them.

So you are referring to after the MEB is completed and sent to PEB, then, you were told there is a 90-120 day turn around for ratings? Not that is matters... it is what it is... but that would be a huge change from when I was at that phase (DEC 10 and JAN 11)! Then, the average turn around was like 21 days from the time VA received your packet to the time you received ratings back!

Dear ceilingfan:

That's what the PEBLO supervisor told me two weeks ago.

My NCM also reiterated the same info to me two days ago.

Beats me why. Other than maybe a pile of cases hit the VA right after holiday break/leave? Or, they piled up during that time?

However, if I'm still on AD on or after April 20, 2012, I'll have 20 "good" Guard years in.

[If I figured that right.... My 19th "Good" year ends 30 Jan., 2012. I think after that date, I would need 75 days thereafter in order to get that "Good" Guard 20th year.

But I'm not sure how that all works, what with being on AD.]

Jason or maparker.....any idea?

That would be too good to be true!
My worries would be over!!!

@ DaniP Not yet. My proposed rating got sent back up to the PEB on 19 May. Now Im just waiting. I wonder why it is taking this long if all they have to do is just finalize everything? Hopefully I will hear something this up and coming week. Ill keep you posted though.

Is anyone dealing with the Providence RI VA? Trying to see when I can expect my ratings back so this PEB can be over and done with and I can get out. Everyone is saying the turnaround time is 90-120 days, but my PEBLO says 30-45 days. Has anyone seen theirs come back in 30-45 days from there? Ready to be done and over with this whole process and move on. Starting to get frustrated.

@DaniP,

I think I was, and this is my timeline thus far:

PEB package received at PEB on 19 Apr 2011

PEB sent to VA on 1 May 2011

VA sent proposed rating back to PEB on 19 May 2011

I called the actual PEB yesterday and I talked to some Ltcol there inquiring about the status on my package and he told me that it usually takes about two weeks from when they receive the proposed rating back from the VA to get the findings done. He told me I am around that two week mark and that I should be receiving something any day now. Well see I guess. Like you I just want to move on with my life. I will definitely keep you posted.

I'm going through Providence. My package was sent 23March11 and still haven't heard a word. I'm at day 92 right now.
