How many VA examinations do I have to go through?

I have been out of the army for about 1.5 months now. I was medically retired. I had 40% rating from the DOD and 90% from the VA. I found out that the DOD rating will never change and will get compensation from dod for life even if the va rating goes below the dod rating. I am currently getting paid from the VA cause of the higher rating. I have been suffering from Temporomandibular disorder for about three years now and I don’t really hope to improve. How many VA examinations will I have to go through? How does VA disabilities become permanent meaning no need to have examinations anymore? Is there a time period like if you don’t improve for 5 years, it becomes permanent? Any information would be appreciated.

You would need to find a local free VSO to pull up your code sheet to see if your disabilities are static or have a RFE.

Thank you for the reply. So on the top it’s says combat code ‘1’, future exams ‘none’ under ‘Legacy Codes’.

This is an area that I believe the VA fails to be transparent. The proposed rating paperwork goes into great detail about why your rating was not higher or lower, but fails to clearly identify if ratings are temporary. Had you found out within the first year you could have appealed the temporary nature of the rating. At this point you could file a new claim in which you seek a permanent rating.
