I got my rating.
90% VA 0% DoD. It’s almost like they didn’t even read what they wrote because I feel like I got cheated.
Should I keep it or appeal it? I’m cool with 90% but I’m stuck in Alaska and I can’t fly home (my dog is restricted on planes) or drive thru Canada with no snow tires soon. TMO will only move my things in April but the ferry doesn’t run until later in may. I feel lost. Would you take the 90 and shut up or try to fight it if you knew they made a typo on your paperwork..

Is retirement worth it??

Chaplain Charlie is correct- do not make any decision until you have consulted with counsel regarding the feasibility of either a VA One-time Reconsideration Request or pursuing the matter at an FPEB hearing.

Yes. Tricare alone makes medical retirement worth it.
Not in all cases. Everyone has to decide whats right for them. If 99% of American can survive without Tricare so can we after we get out. Im not saying its not good…its great but there are insurance options available

That is such a silly statement.

The question he asked was is: "is retirement worth it " Not: "Can I survive without it".

Worth is subjective. Based on individual opinions. Therefore his question was asking for a opinion

Between gaurenteed affordable insurance for yourself and dependents and a lifetime monthly income it is not a controversial statement to say Retirement is "worth" it

Opinions are like buttholes and elbows and everyone has one. Maybe for him the Separation Pay is more beneficial because he can start a business or invest. The point is HE has to make his own decision on whats best for him. Yes retirement is worth it for the insurance…but depending on your life situation maybe the separation pay is more beneficial. If you don’t have a family or never intend to and its just you there are lots of VA healthcare options for veterans. So for me I chose the separation pay. For you maybe retirement and tricare was a better option. The fact is each has to way the options on what they want and in my situation the separation pay was the better choice.

I feel like you are arguing for the sake of arguing. You didn't choose seperation pay. That's what the VA determined you qualified for. Separation pay is paid back. If given a actual choice between the two it is more financially beneficial to chose retirement. That's straight dollars and cents facts

I think you are wrong but you are entitled to your opinion. 100k investment in into a business can give you a huge return on investment. Now yes I did choose to accept my IPEB results but I could have fought it. Maybe I would have won but maybe not. I think its very closed minded to think that a very large sum of money to start a business or invest can not give you a greater return on investment then tricare. Again this is just my opinion you dont have to agree with it. Some of the richest people in the world started with the same amount of money that some people get offered for severance pay.

So if they had rated you at 30% you would have appealed for a lower rating? Yeah ok.

You decided to quote my original post and for some unknown reason tried to argue that my very non controversial statement was somehow false and continue to try tobmake that argument.

How many times in the history of this program do you think someone has tried fo appeal for a lower rating to get separated and not retired?

If you want to convince yourself that your situation is better off with a severance loan then by all means good luck. And I genuinely hope it works out for you.

That doesn't change the fact that my original state is by every measurable statistic true

And you are the very reason why forums are toxic. All I did was express and opinion and you got butt hurt about it. You OPINION is not facts. As much as you would like it to be it not. I don’t know why your making such a big deal out of nothing. The OP asked for opinions so I gave him mine…period the end. He doesn’t have to agree, he doesn't have to like it, he doesn’t have to accept it. Calm down dude

I guess my last post touched a nerve.

You didnt give the op your opinion, you quoted and replied to my post. Its like if someone asks what color is the sky and i answer the sky is blue.. and you just HAVE to reply and say "Well Akchually from time to time to sky can be orange or red depending on the location of the sun." Thats toxic. I didnt ask for yours or anyones opinion with my answer. The Op asked for opinions, reply to him not me

If you wanted to give the op your opinion you could have replied to him and said something along the lines of "Regardless of either outcome you can use the seperation pay (Loan) to your advantage by doing A.B.C. or something similar.

Im not saying its the end of the world if you get separated and not retired. And im sure you will be successful. But dont get your shorts in a twist when you come after my statement as if its wrong and i defend it. The question was "Is Retirement worth it" The answer is Yes its worth it, period the end.
