IPEB findings to Separation Date Est?

I am an Active Duty AF Officer with 19yrs 8mo of service. I just received my IPEB findings (permanent retirement 80% DoD 100% VA) and will accept them on 17 May. It is my understanding that I need to make it to 20yrs (Sep 2023) in order to receive CRDP. What is the timeline from findings to separation date? Some documentation says less than 90 days and ideally 27-32 days. I am worried that the AF will attempt to medically retire me before that 20yr mark which could potentially cost roughly $4K/mo in pension (if I read the regs correctly).

What are the chances that AFPC will separate me prior to my 20 yr mark (10 Sep 23), if so, do I drag my feet somehow to ensure closer to 90day timeline?

I'll tell you that I'm fairly certain it works different for officers. I think the VAST majority of people on here are enlisted, so I'm not sure any information you're given here will be correct.

I'm in the exact same boat as you. AF Officer, but I hit my 20 years in June. 4 other AF officers at my unit are going through the IPEB process and I've been tracking their timelines.

Once you get your ratings, you have 6 days to sign for them. You can take all 6 days. Once that happens, you'll have about ~2 weeks until your mpf processes your orders. Then you'll have another 2 weeks to out process. Next, your commander can grant you 20 days of house hunting. Then, you start your terminal leave. How much leave do you have? If you don't have enough leave, there is another option for you to stay in that is written in the regs. AFPC can approve a waiver for you to stay in until 20 years. I can do some digging to get you the reference. I was worried I was going to land in your situation, so i made sure I had that in my back pocket.

It works the same way for officers as it does for enlisted.

why not appeal and request FPEB to delay? That would work out great especially if the hearing dates are far out. Then just withdraw appeal right before hearing or when you know you can make it to 20 years?

Also, what about submitting a COAD packet? You have options. What has your assigned IDES legal representation said?

That's a possibility, if you're not worried that your ratings could get lowered. This would buy you about 3-4 weeks. My buddy just went through that process. In fact, there is another step after that appeal, that you can have the SECAF review your case for retention. This step was reinstated.

COAD has no affect on the ratings. They either accept and let you hit 20 years or don't and you get medically retired. Remember the most you can get is all of your earned longevity + VA compensation so their is no risk for COAD but its a long shot to get it.

This was the policy that I was referring to. Members can request an extension to finish out their careers. I've heard they are fairly lenient with awarding those to members who are close.
