MEB and Me

I was just told I may be medically boarded because of PTSD, Hypothyroid, cervical radioaphathy, headaches (they might be migrains), and fibermyalgia. I also may have TBI (still undergoing tests). The memory and cognition tests are indicating that something is going on. Also my brain appears to have shrank (maybe due to postconcussion syndrom).

I was hospitalized at the national PTSD center in Palo Alto for over 90 days. Most of my testing was done by the VA while I was there.

What is the opinion of a possible MEB, also how would I find the rating for these items if I am looking at a possible MEB?

ANy help would be appreciated.

Annie,

Welcome! I am sorry you have suffered these injuries. With a hospitilization for unresolved PTSD, it is a near certainty that you will be MEBd. The best indicator, though, is that they have told you they are going to board you.

As far as ratings, check for the VASRD ratings in the Conditions Forum. Right now, the Linked VASRD is not yet compete, so I would look in the individual sections for now. If you can't find them, let me know and I will post pin point links to them.

I wish you the best in navigating this process and please let us know any questions.

from what i know about MEB is that there is only 1 injury that will disqualify you from the military. You named a couple injuries but i dont think they will add them up. I had my IPEB and now going to formal MEB next monday. Check the VASRD for how they will rate you. good luck

Depending on the severity, each condition may be disqualifying. If each is unfitting, they will combine ratings.

At Fort Lee (home of mortuary affairs) , most of our severe PTSD (multi-hospitalizations and long stays) are coming back at 70% just for the PTSD. That's just in the last month, before that they were coming back much lower. I suppose we have the VASRD to thank for some consistency. My husband's and another 92M both have memory problems which even after evidence presented from neuropsych testing the MEB/PEB still attributed to the effects of the depression with the PTSD and not as a separate condition in his write up. I think it would depend on whether the neuropsych says the memory loss is a result of the TBI or a result of the depression and how severe each is.
Don't know if this helps or not.
